Toshiba, Dell/Alienware and Asus,.. while good brands,.. will be over priced.

MSI and Lenovo if you spec out the right CPU, memory speed, Larger SSD drive with a secondary SSD or faster mechanical and opt for an actual dedicated graphics board instead of the integrated grapics so common with laptops,.. those 2 with Acer a very close 3rd will offer the best bang for the buck.

For example,..I originally paid $3400 for the laptop I have now. An identically equipped Alienware or Asus would have for over $4000 - $4500 respectively.

I much prefer building my own desktop gaming tower for much much less than what it costs to get similar performance from a laptop. But lets face it,.. laptop is a lot more practical for going over the road.

If you browse tech sites like I do,.. you can get promo codes for 20 - 30% discounts off from online vendors like Newegg and such. Bestbuy never has any of the good laptops in store,.. you always have to order and wait for it to be shipped if you want a good one. They only stock the cheaper models that sell quickly.

Most people donot know what they are getting when they buy a laptop.

Laptops in general are overpriced. That's why I don't buy them anymore. I'd much rather have a gaming system that serves me for entertainment with games and DVDs, then a Chromecast that I can screen mirror my phone or tablet to for television. However my tablet setup I have more serves my need on gaming at the moment

Optical drives are pretty useless now days. The majority dont use them and opt for USB sticks instead. Much simpler and faster.

The only good use for an optical drive would be for DVD/BluRay movies. And lets be honest,.. how many people actually buy or rent them anymore with all of the other legal and not so legal digital sources available?

I do both,.. monster gaming rig at home set up using a 55" Sony 4K TV as the monitor. I love my eye candy,.. 38040x2160 resolution with everything set to ultra is what I really love.

I have a 42" 1080 TV in the truck. Its ok as a monitor,.. but its only a 60hz screen. My laptop has a 17.3" 120hz refresh IPS screen,.. and its so much smoother and nicer. Its so much easier to adjust the mouse movement and make it butter smooth vs the cheaper 30 or 60hz screens that often make it difficult to get rid of the mouse choppiness.

I cringed at paying what I did for my latop,.. I built my desktop system for $1000 less less than this laptop. I can write off the laptop though which made it acceptable to my wife,.. else should would never have let my buy it. Well not with out giving me a lot of grief.
