I had a bit of a delay en route to consignee, I tell CS what time I'm going to get there and to please check to make sure they are accepting delivery at that time. CS says go ahead, and of course when I get there noone is around. Im at a gate that I have to blind side back onto a busy road during rush hour and its getting dark out. I ended up calling the local pd and explaining the situation. The police officer came out, stopped traffic long enough to let me back out and thanked me for calling rather than attempting it solo.

Well written. I may even have to check and see if it coincides with 'One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer' the way that the Wizard of Oz goes to Dark Side of the Moon.

If there wasn't a no parking sign on that dirt lot behind the bar there may have been a One bourbon, One Scotch and One beer break before resuming to find the yellow brick road the next morning. lol

Take a look at what town you're in and then google. For example right now I'm in Burlington NJ. I'd google Burlington NJ police department and call their non emergency number.

I had a stop (gas station) that was notorious for being crowded. Sometimes you'd drive past and just have to come back later depending on the parking lot situation. I got in there and everything got shammed up quick. Some city cops were in there and I asked if they'd help me out of there. Busy road... had to back out and tons of pedestrian traffic trying to walk under the trailer, etc... Both of the officers got out of their cruiser and stopped traffic for me. They were helpful and positive. I've learned some lessons since then but it's still easy to get shammed up in these small busy stops in the city.

I knew as soon as I saw the thread title someone would post one of the oldest trucking myths of all time: being told by a cop it was okay to drag a trailer over the hood of an illegally parked car to make a turn. Never happened.

Think about it for a moment. IF you could get the tandems up over the hood of a car you would, at a minimum, come away with at least a few destroyed tires to say nothing of damaged airlines or other problems. You would drag the car sideways until it came up against something, like a pole, to wedge it in place taking down anything not strong enough to hold it . Plus, depending on the load, you would put the trailer at an acute enough angle to lay it on its side.

I delivered from a dairy in the north corner of NJ to the Ding Dong Dairy c-stores in the 5 boroughs of NYC starting in 1971. I was in this situation a dozen or more times and on the rare occasions a cop was nearby was never told to run over a car. At best I got work-around directions but usually got the tough #### response.

My cousin was NYPD from the early 70s until he retired 30 years later. I asked him about this and he'd never heard of it happening but he got curious and asked several of his friends if they had. About a year later he told me the question had been asked cop to cop a few hundred times and not one said they had even heard a rumor of it happening.

    Did. Not. Happen.

You know what, I've seen that story before and always doubted it. This makes perfect sense. A cop letting a truck do that would make the news real quick. And, especially these days, it would be recorded by at least one person and be all over social media.

I've called cops I think 4 times when I was OTR. and never had to wait but maybe 10 minutes at most. They were all respectful and curteoous.I think most appreciate being called by trk drivers instead of drivers making a situation alot worse then what it should have been.
