One thing. Just bc motor was replaced, the replacement motor could be a junk yard motor. I would want to know if it was a crate motor or where it came from. Also ISX is over $20000 to overhaul. Keep that in mind. Also international trucks don't bring a lot of money on used market. Just FYI

For that money it's not a crate engine. How's the frame? Suspension? How does it drive?

And remember what they say about doing business with family and friends.

Good luck, hope it works out for you!

you are buying a used truck there are no guarantees nothing won't break. On the same note there is guarantee you won't go a million miles in it issue free be prepared for the worst and hope for the best good luck with your new investment

"private sale - from a friend"

Still do your due diligence as if you have no idea who the seller is. You have a mechanic lined up - good, have him go over the whole truck including a dyno before you hand over any money.

Yes and get an ECM dump on it plus a dealer record printout to see what was done by them.

Well I have the keys, but haven't paid for it.

Dyno and oil sampling are on the to-do list. It's parked at the yard where I work, hopefully I'm back Friday night/Saturday morning to pull it in the shop.

What would I gain from an ECM dump? I believe the ECM that came with the motor was used, I think the original ecm had to go back with the motor as a core. I meant to ask where the other ecm got to.

Fuel water seperator- is it important in the summer? Or does it act as a pre-filter for the main fuel filter?

Previous driver claims he got cut off and brake checked. No evidence one way or the other. I went down and picked up the hood, we changed it on a Saturday.
Not much of a story to tell.

Good Luck! I'm just starting out as well. Should be under a load next week (Flatbed). We can second guess till the cows come home. I never expect the worst, I'm too positive to have that mindset, however, I don't expect zero problems my first year. I'll deal with them as they arise. Preventive maintenance helps a lot.
Might be overkill to some, not to me. Also, before your next oil change interval, have your oil tested.
I'm actually more concerned with finding good dependable drivers.
