I hope soon we will say RIP IRP
YOU THINK TRUMP WILL REMOVE HEAD ACHE REGULATIONS? -
I'm also based in CT
To get your apportion plates you should stop at Wethersfield DMV or just call them and they will mail you application for IRP account and for registration. If you will lease your truck to your corporation, DMV also require non-trucking liability insurance. For first time application it's can take round a week to get your plates.trucko and brian991219 Thank this. -
J. J. Keller specializes in Motor Carrier Compliance among other things. You would be wise to contact them with any questions. Not saying you wont get correct info here. However they can answer all correctly for your particular needs.

I'm not sure if you can apply before you get your insurance but to save some time call them and ask to mail you applications. They mail it for free. You should receive a big envelope with lots of instructions of their requirements. Information below from ct dmv website

I don't know how accurate it is but I was advised that to get insurance now and make policy effective for a later date so you can show me's policy to DMV and get number plates and get it registered have you ever have you anybody done it? This makes sense because my MC will not get activated before February 25 no matter I file insurance now or February 22 so what I'm going to do is get the insurance now but make effective date On February 22 so I won't lose money for insurance from today's date to February 22

Maybe you will be able to open IFTA account but I don't think that they will give you apportioned plates for your truck because when I registered first truck they required to bring certificate of insurance with active policy and IRP department listed as certificate holder and additional insured. Maybe something changed since that time. At that time it took 5 days to get plates after I dropped my paperwork at their office.
trucko Thanks this. -
Looks like Connecticut wants to see Active before they issue apportioned Number plate.

This IRP stuff is a headache. I'll be happy when all my initial filings for everything is done. I'm in Ohio and now I'm curious about whether or not I will be able to get my plates in 1 day or 20 lol. I bought my truck outright and have insurance, DOT#, PUCO#. I have started the MC# process. My title should be here any day and I figured I'd go to the BMV when it comes. Anyone From Ohio go through the process and care to enlighten me?
