Do you still haul cars in Texas? I have a coworker that says it can be lucrative with a 3 car hauler just here in Texas, but all the threads I read say otherwise. I was thinking about getting into it but I wouldn't want to make less money than my regular job. I would appreciate your feedback.

Did you read anything in this thread that said car haul is lucrative now?
Especially what car express said about his deal in Texas where his rate has been cut by 50%.

Anchor Doubles.jpeg Reminds me of a project Anchor Motor Freight did way back in the 80's...They ran double "Little Mac" rigs the length of the NY Thruway, Spring Valley to Buffalo. Tarrytown and Linden units for Canada dropping in Buffalo, Oshawa US traffic down. They used extras to load and unload and retirees to marshal to staging. The damage was thru the roof as the ones loading and unloading had no accountability so they didn't care. Point of the story...the driver loads and unloads their own stuff.

Yes same thing happens in the port where New Cars arrive, ones who unload from train probably are not liable in anyway so when I was hauling new cars I used to find lots of scratches inflicted from cell phone holding in hand, boots, jeans buttons, keys of other cars etc. Especially Ford Explorers were affected

The rail unloader IS responsible, provided the Carrier/Driver documents the damage BEFORE moving the vehicle from the bay. How many drivers do you see just go to a vehicle, jump in, start it and back out? A thorough in bay inspection is imperative. Unloading contractors are forbidden (just like carriers) to wear any exposed buttons, buckles, watches, etc. The claim process gets stuck on the last one to handle the vehicle unless there is documented proof and it was signed off. Any port units off a ship are gone over by the port processor, there should not be any damage on the vehicle. Any damage found, they usually pull it from the load and back to their prep shop.

well, I did not know that, because out of 7 cars 5 had some kind of damage, little scratch, chip, scuff. This was really big annoying thing.

Yup, no different from hauling POV's. You learn very quickly to take photos and document every single imperfection before you even think of jumping into that vehicle, otherwise you get left holding the bag and possibly paying for some damage you didn't even cause.

I learned that the hard way, but you bet your ### I learned it.
