Did it burn alot of oil when idling? Or I should say load up with burnt oil from alot of idling. If so that is a good sign you have some bad valve guides . I had an exhaust valve rub my liner on #6 cylinder. See the dent in liner?
Any cat experts ? Got a few question about my c15 twins

Waw....yes it did burnt quite a bit by idling, n seems to me that blowby was doing a good job too
-
as you can see, the valves are still new but they just keep breaking off,
snowman_w900 Thanks this. -
Are those cat brand valves? Can't see any identification on them.
-
No he said it was after market head.
-
Is this the same head just replacing the bad valves?
-
Nope, am waiting for the kit to come in, redo the whole job, sick of this aftermarket crap,
-
Last time they trew on another head, but obviously, did'nt do the job....

I played the same game. Tried aftermarket head made in Portland, t ties injector shop reman injectors. Finally after too.many issues I jut rebuilt it. Cat injectors and head but absolutely no cat cylinder kits for me.
Can QC has gone to crap. Of the 6 liners you get, 3 will look visibly used. Weights of pistons will be out by 5 to 8 ounces etc. Just junk!
I went with fp diesel. A federal mogul company. The pistons that came with it are ceramic coated mahle pistons. Everything looks good, hitting the road tomorrow.
If you are getting a platinum kit. Measure absolutely everything! The head will be out. Don't be afraid to return and Exchange worn looking liners.Starcar575 Thanks this. -
Forewarned, check every cat part for sure. Cat has had same issues with the valve guides as well. Think they all are buying the parts from same vendor. Pull liner packs apart and inspect pistons and rings. I have found rings installed upside down. And missing!! Have deck of head checked for trueness. I'm not kidding! There is a place in Mn that sells a good aftermarket head they install their own parts that are good. I think it is called diesel cast welding, not sure though. Also inspect pistons to see if they are different design from 1 through 6.snowman_w900, SAR, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.
