The reason I said that there are a LOT of people out here in big trucks that take them to the Petro and pay big shop rates to have headlight replaced :-/ obviously you won't be one of them.
daf105paccar, strollinruss and Sham3R Thank this. -
The few times I've taken my current truck to a TA/Petro/Loves was because the carrier was paying for something to get fixed on a trailer. I wouldn't trust a truck stop to do anything unless there was absolutely no other choice.. if I still had the tools and the shop space i used to the truck would never see an outside shop. I don't know everything about turning wrenchs but I know where to look.

Man listen, I would just look for a truck that has an electronic engine. On average, the mechanical engines aren't going to be as good on fuel. You can't hardly beat a series 60 Detroit for fuel economy and economical repairs. N14 Cummins is good and even a 3406 E Cat, but parts are a little higher and not quite as good on fuel.Sham3R Thanks this.

The main reason I'm looking into older models is because they are easier to work on and don't have DEF. While yes the ability to run paper logs is nice that's not my primary reason. I haven't seen any decent newer ones yet in my window shopping budget however that doesn't mean they aren't out there.strollinruss Thanks this.
