I like to beat up on Swift as much as the next guy, but that article was a thinly veiled scaremongering hit piece. According to the article, Swift has 21,000 trucks which were involved in 650 accidents over a two year period. So .03 percent of all trucks in Swift's fleet had a wreck. In two years. The article doesn't mention how many of those were single vehicle accidents, and while it does report 65 fatalities in those two years it doesn't say how many were occupants of other vehicles and how many were the Swift drivers themselves. Yeah, wrecks are bad and something to be avoided, but a close look at the numbers doesn't support the image presented in the article of Lightning Bolt murder machines wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting population.

Failed inspections and taking breaks at the fuel pumps are another matter for a separate conversation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Swift so much as I'm condemning a biased news article that was lazily researched.

 

Yeah, that was for certain. "If it bleeds it leads" big scary trucking company. And they didn't even put forth the effort to make the numbers scarier.

Cause that 650 in two years figure seems lower than what I've heard before. Gonna have to dig up the numbers when I'm not half heartedly watching glass get loaded and waiting patiently to begin throwing straps.

 

Good questions, I didn't expect that.

Allegedly only like 12-14% of our drivers get violations or tickets. That was as of about a year ago I think.

 

It's what I'm thinking. Course it could be they are counting straight up violations. And you could have multiple vilolations at an inspection.

Found it, 660 injury crashes. 2,284 total crashes anything that qualifies as DOT reportable anyway. Knew there was something not right. About that 650. See I already did scarier and better research than that media outlet.

And yet another accident waiting to happen DA recording video with phone checking out the accident instead of both hands on the wheel and paying attention to what's going on in front of him... SMH!!

 

From what i was told yesterday by a driver who runs this region daily...the flatbed driver apparently has died in the hospital...haven't seen any confirmation of this and the ups driver ended up with broken ribs and broken arm and other minor injuries...
