OK I may be a little biased, but I wanted to share with you all. I've tried different external speakers such as the Cobra 500 and the Uniden Bearcat 20. But this one....In my opinion tops them all.
It's made by Vertex (same company that makes Yaesu radios) and it's called the MLS-100. It'll set you back $52 but it's worth it. Why?
Well, I don't know how or what they did, but this speaker is basically an amplified speaker but there's no amplifier. It produces a more richer sound than some of the other speakers I have heard. It's as if they specifically set this up for the vocal range. Which is what any speaker for a CB should do.
Eham has some good reviews on this speaker. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/3097
So with that said, I recommend d these. I purchased mine thru Associate Radio in Overland Park, KS. But they can be ordered online.
Just thought I'd share.
You want the best external speaker?

This is what I run in my personal vehicle. It fits where the ashtray once was.Slowmover1, Blaskowitz, rabbiporkchop and 2 others Thank this. -
By the power invested in physics, it can't amplify without a power source. If it only uses the radio's power to drive its speaker, it's not truly amplified. However, you say it sounds better and louder....perhaps a well-designed driver and cabinet with a higher sensitivity than most other external speakers.Slowmover1 and ExOTR Thank this.

That's what I think it is, not the speaker itself but the cabinet it's in. I listened before I bought this one to a couple other speakers on display. This one was clearly the loudest and the richestBlaskowitz, rabbiporkchop and BTShepp Thank this.

Shielded audio cable is an easy fix.
Unfortunately it is 4 ohms.Last edited: Feb 19, 2017

This is what I use...RSN4001 by Motorola...find them on ebay for around $20-$30...usually you will need to replace the plug tho.
Blaskowitz and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
I use the Motorola HSN4031B or is it the 4032, gonna have to look at it again. Regardless, sounds fabulous. Had it for years since I was using those repeater radios to call base. They phase out and I kept the speaker.

unshielded cable. not much of an issue for low-power situations though
