So I did my DOT physical here in vegas, and passed. It was a joke, though.
Basically, they check your piss for sugar, made you read the chart, checked your peripheral vison, and checked blood pressure. And I really liked the $25 cash only policy. As long as you didn't tell him about a problem, you will pass easily.
My question is when you go to orientation to you get another physical from the carrier's doctor, and is it more rigorous? I would hate to go to orientation and get kicked out because the first "doctor" did such a crap job. I don't think I have a problem, but you never know.

Have you seen some of the drivers out there? Makes me wonder if some of these companies don't have a doctor on their "payroll"..
-
if you cant pass a DOT physical you need to apply for disability
that said some companies have stricter policies but doesn't relate to your medical card -
turn your head and cough...

Many times and depending on the employer, YES, they can be more rigorous. I would not sweat it out just yet though. No need to start raising your B/P now.Russjac Thanks this.

Where did you go in las Vegas

My local Dr will check everything to government requires. It reality, the government guidelines aren't all that stringent anyway. Biggest problem you hear of is blood pressure. Bottom line is, if you aren't legally blind, aren't grossly obese, have decent BP, don't pee sugar, and can bend over enough to tie your shoes, you should pass.

You might run into a doctor who is more strict.
I went to Covenant Orientation one time, and the doctor there insisted on doing the whisper hearing test in a room with 50 people yammering away all over the place. Talk about a no win situation. I talked to a lawyer about taking them to court over the ACA and so on, but was told by Lawyer that they have a right to be more strict with higher standards. If anyone can hear anything in a room like that down there near Eagle Mountain, then they are God as far as Im concerned. I was the only one tested in that manner, everyone else present did not have hearing issues that I had obviously. But not everyone made it through I think about 10 out of 50 or so were gone by the time they came for me with a bus ticket home.
Ordinary DOT exams with a doctor you will never see again in your life is not difficult to pass. If I was to keep my mouth shut about the many specific Medical Issues in my own system that are most certainly DOT related disqualifying, I can probably get any doctor in say Concentra or some other mega exam system to hand me a DOT medical card. But I wont. Especially knowing that after a certain period of time I become a safety threat behind a wheel regardless of my extensive experience with trucking.
