Illinois is another state. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming into some sort of carry. Chicago makes a mockery of all laws every night. If Maryland ever becomes Shall Issue which might be another small step forward then I'll pick up a non resident permit for them. Otherwise I don't ever plan on seeing the State ever again. At some point you have to stand on our Laws in a free state and do your best. The Senate had a National Carry oppertunity a time or two in the dead of night on Cspan senate to vote which did not pass the last time they tried it about two years ago. There is another pending, but it will be a while before they make a attempt to vote on it. National Carry will mean that your CHL (Permit etc) is the same level as your drivers license recognized in the entire USA. That will be a good step forward. What about the states that do not issue any permit to conceal carry? (There are several) and some states have none at all, such as Alaska.
One more thought I offer. Some of you will run into media articles speaking about registered firearms. I don't know about you but there are three things to keep in mind, one automatic weapons are a Tax Stamp class III item and do not go anywhere without Uncle Sam knowing, weapons sold are kept records by the gun shop that sold them (FFL etc) to the buyer via the serial number and maybe the 4423 form and I don't know of any one that demands to "Register" my colt and it's number when I go somewhere outside of Arkansas. If I reported it stolen after the fact then that serial will be on a list used by the Law to hunt for it, but most likely it will be stripped and used as parts or sold off into many illegal hands in a short time for 50 dollars or whatever. It would not be too hard to find a colt where i am because I am in a land of Glocks. lol. I get teased about it. And they are partly right with certain issues when it's hot enough after like 500 rounds in a training class over several hours. -
I'm not sure why they can get away with that when the state has preempted all other local handgun laws. -
Sofe note: Laser sights are always a debated topic in the defense crowd. The guys against it says it gives away your location in dark environments. And they are right it does. But the reality is the normal law abiding citizen that carries for self defense is not ever going up against some well trained chinese operative, or even a true hardened criminal. We carry so that when some junkie or wanna be thug wants to put a knife in us in order to find out what's in our wallet, we have a chance to prevent becoming a statistic. And that pos that thinks he is a tough guy of the streets won't be so tough with that red dot drawing tight little circles over the center of his chest. -
With that said and checking that laser's orientaiton regularly, I always use my iron sights, they are themselves lighted by Tritium nuclear energy so that day or night no longer matters. Establish three dots on the bad guy, front dot focused and open fire. I don't even think about that either anymore. Lasers do not work in strong light. But if my led colored light hitting the bad guy is stronger then the laser dot will reveal. Even in bright sun.
Laser is also a two way sword. Bad guys with enough presence of mind can line on the beam all the way to it's source and it's going to be generally very close to your center mass. If they are not feeling the effects of fear that consumes people physically in danger long enough to process that beam as a chance to take out the (To them... aggressor) then that is that. Anyone who says they are not scared is lying. Being able to push fear aside and function like a drilled machine until the situation is over is pretty common to trucking during my time when someone's life is in danger to be lost either my own or someone else. That is one thing I will always thankful for that experience because it has been a life saving one to have. I know at some point we all must die. I believe that whatever it is I don't see coming will be what gets me. But not until then. Hopefully not for a long time. -
- Which states allow me to carry a concealed firearm with or without a license to carry?

http://www.handgunlaw.us is the definitive guide to concealed carry in the US and it's free.Rocknroller4 and Jake Brake Thank this. -
The websites and books are all well and good.
I myself rely on USCCA, United States Concealed Carry Association. With them I get a updated information each month in a magazine fast enough to keep up with the changing of laws usually.
Arkansas is actually getting ready to vote today or already voted to pass a law to force all of our colleges to accept a CHL armed staff person, the problem lies in a compromise that the staff member must have 15 hours of active shooter training provided possibly by the State Police. I don't know about you but Israel supplies instructors here in these USA for private training with groups of 15 or larger for active shooter, terrorist training etc. Most shooting ranges have combat instructors on a variety of courses. My Range is teaching a combat EMT course where you will know enough to patch up gunshot trauma wounds to a certain point. But only so far, until actual real EMT and Trauma doctors get ahold of that shot up person, maybe yourself maybe the bad guy. It does not hurt to carry a complete medical kit on your belt and knowing or have been trained on everything inside that kit.
It's a fluctuating sitaution to hold a concealed carry permit, it holds many responsibilities. All of which boils down to one simple fact. Come home safe at the end of today and nothing at all bad happened to you or anyone. That is all we can hope for to be happy in this life of dangerous places in our world.Joetro Thanks this.
