I used the wrong formula. I used avgx1.414x2=PEP But I will test my 655 here in a few when I go out to the car. According to the radio, I'm dead keying 20 watts, so we will see what the meter says.

 

You guys make me laugh - bird tuned, bird watts.

You wonder why cb shops stay in business, watts,watts,and more watts, there is always a spirited debate about this radio and that radio and my radio has pep of this amount of watts and I took my radio to X cb shop and he did this and that and Im showing bazillion watts on bird, so on and so on, these cb techs take advantage of this eagerness and quest for more watts.

 

Like i said...# of watts = the size of the manhood or the fish you say you caught..

 

Lol! I see where you are coming from! I'll be the first to admit I don't know #### about the internals of a radio, but I can set them up. In fact, I have a 955 and I love it on AM, but for some reason it triggers the high SWR warning in SSB. No idea if the guy I bought it from (supposedly new, but I figured it had been tinkered with) messed with it or not. Tried different coax and antenna, grounding, different vehicles, no avail. Gave up on it. And the backlighting on the faceplate is split colors now. Reminds me of a vehicle that got flooded by water.

 

Which reminds me, my ham ticket expires in June! Better mark that on the calendar!

 

What's wrong with using quality metering equipment?

 

@rabbiporkchop I hooked up the 655 in my car today and used a 100 watt slug since I can't find my 50 watt slug. But they really need to do something about the power meter function on these radio's. Radio said I was dead keying 20 watts, when in reality It was closer to 8 watts. Power turned all the way up it only hit 13 watts.

 

No offense but you understand what it means?

 

Do I know what it means? As in what? Using a thruline meter to sample the reference power and being able to utilize various scales of power using elements?
