You have a lot of nerve to drive a nice rig and expect to be paid well for doing a good job! I am so tired of these lame mis informed people who think that all union members are lazy! F them! I have worked hard my entire life whether I was Union or non Union and most other people have also! Union or non Union I have been paid well most of my working career or else I didn't work there, because I am worth every #### dollar$$$. I have produced every place I have worked and still do today! You get what you pay for and you deserve what you get. Those of you who have based you anti Union rhetoric based upon your limited experiences with people, not every one is like those that you have had negative experiences with. When you generalize about anything or any group you are going to falsely accuse good hard working people while you spew your BS![/QUOTE]
I agree with you. A good carhauler is worth his or her weight in gold. What im talking about is exactly what you seem to be upset about. This so called anti-union rhetoric is not coming from days, weeks or even months of expierence, but years. We have been dealing with NON-UNION rhetoric for years. Being told because we were non-union, that we were scabs, or equipment was inferior, etc. Not every union carhauler had this attitude but honestly most did. If that's not you, cool. No one said you didn't work hard. WE ALL work hard. That's my point we work hard just like the union guys. Just was curious of why some union and former union car haulers treated us like we didn't belong

In my opinion it is the roughly 10% of the union workforce that has the problem with anyone working non-union. They are the malingerers that if not for the International, would not have a job. They spend all their time gossiping and feeding off each other in a negative manner. The rest of the rank & file just want to do their job, do the right thing and feed their families.

This summer I worked a pipeline gig with their union lowboy and flatbed guys. 99% of them were great guys and helped me on a few sites we were at. The problem we ran into with 2 different crews of labors, was they wouldn't help unchain or spot us in location. The other load and off load labors were super nice.. I asked one of the crew why no help. Their reply, was we were out siders and not part of the union crews.. We just took it in stride and did our job

    High Seniority
Way back when 238 Driptroits were common and a 290 was a big engine I was laid off and working as a casual for a Cleveland area refractory supply co, union job delivering to steel mills, paid like a slot machine.
The best part was I worked in the position of whoever I was replacing, meaning I held their seniority. So at the ripe old age of 23, for a few weeks I would be top dog with the most whiskers, best truck, picking the best loads looking down my nose at all those drivers below me, for a few weeks anyway. After that I was just a low seniority laid off carhauler waiting to get called back.
    All depends on the contract.

My only problem with senority, it can reward the slackers who put their time in but really are not good at what they do or productive and profitable. I have seen this first hand with my father-in-law, and at the couple of IBT gigs I have had. I truly believe in rewarding production and safety over longevity as it is in the best interest of the drivers future to be sure the company makes a profit not just to keep your brothers employes. Lets face it, the harsh reality is if a company is not profitable there will not be any jobs there in the future. Now, I know management has a lot to do with this as well, and I believe they should also be held to a production standard to keep their jobs.
