How steep was the grade he had to go up. I have had some before with the weight and ground conditions, it was just as smart and easy to have the pull unit start before I knew there was going to be a problem. Easier to all start under power on level ground, than pull unit trying to pull you dead stop on an 8 percent or more grade half way up. Also saves drive lines, clutches etc

Sorry friend. I will back out.Oxbow, rank and johndeere4020 Thank this.

Just to add...2 speed rears are h e a v y. Expensive to repair too. If you get a transmission with deep reduction, you won't need 2 speeds for doing what you want to do.Oxbow, rank and johndeere4020 Thank this.

Maybe a 15 speed? Never driven one but I do know they have some low gears.Oxbow, TripleSix and johndeere4020 Thank this.

1650 torque max or something like that.

Some of the guys have trucks that will pull a quarter million lbs out of a rock quarry. I don't see OP needing that much truck. 550-625 hp, 18 speed, and 4.10 gears full lockers will do everything he needs.

I have pulled in excess of 200k with 550 and 3.90 mated to an 18 speed.
Another thing about the dual range rears, I don't believe that you can get them as full lockers.Oxbow, rank, HandLogger and 1 other person Thank this. -
My Pete had an ISX 565 with an 18 spinning 3:90's and I pulled the 9 axle with that truck all the time.Oxbow, passingthru69, rank and 2 others Thank this.

I've had 2 of those. Don't think i ever used that first gear. Heck the only time i used the bottom 5 was when i was loaded to gross and pulling out of one of those docks built down into the ground.Oxbow, rank, HandLogger and 1 other person Thank this.
