Yep, agreed 100%. People don't stop to think that they are part of the problem by their very existence...but rather they think nooooooo, not me. Everyone else is the problem, not me. Selfishness at it's highest level. How many times has this person shipped items using FedEx? Trucks are on the road to serve their sorry butt, so when they crash into one, they have themselves to blame due to their contribution to putting it there in the first place.
Now they want trailer side bumpers

That's like saying I'm to blame when the pizza delivery guy runs a red light and broadsides a minivan. If a guy drives like an idiot and contributes to causing an accident, he shares blame. But he didn't share blame for purchasing goods transported on a truck. That's just asinine.Last edited: Feb 24, 2017
51.50 and 4mer trucker Thank this. -
I put quite a rant on a Utah newspaper site just this afternoon over this. And of course, all I caught was crap...
I still think the basic mistake here is making cars so "safe" so "idiot proof" that people don't die when they do something stupid and have or cause a crash.
People just don't know HOW to think anymore. They have no reason to learn how to REMEMBER anything, because all they have to do is push the right buttons, and their cell phone, their GPS, their computer, their tablet will all tell them what to do.dc730, pigeon river trucking, Snailexpress and 5 others Thank this. -
Of course the real repair to this situation in 5 year will be the autonomous car that has no steering wheel or gas pedal. It probably will still have a brake of some form. More than likely a great big panic switch.
-
Gonna be a LOT longer than five years. In fact some legislatures are pushing to put a halt to that experiment.

Here's an idea. Let's make cars and trucks out of NERF.
Crashes are now FUN.

If drivers licenses required more training both theory as in law regulations and possible outcomes of poor driving habits, and more time behind the wheel with an instructor I believe most of the dangerous situations and tragic outcomes caused by four wheelers would become less and less common as time went on.
lovesthedrive and AModelCat Thank this. -
Want to hear a fact? One that will likely piss you off, as much as it does me?
In the wonderful state of Utah, the written part of the driver's license test either still is, or used to be open book! smhKANSAS TRANSIT, passingthru69 and AModelCat Thank this. -
Open book???
SMH
that is just plain stupid.
Big Don Thanks this. -
I don't agree with a lot of this new high tech stuff coming out on cars. In theory, things like blind spot indicators, park assist, rearview camera, adaptive cruise should be used to enhance safety, but not replace things like checking mirrors, shoulder checks, etc. Unfortunately the average person is relying solely on these lights and beeps, thus reducing the average driver's awareness of the driving environment.
When I got my learners at 16, all that was required was 40/50 on a written exam. I had to drive with a supervisor for a year though. At 17 I took a 45 minute road test which allowed me to drive alone but with passenger restrictions and heavier fines for screwing up. Then finally at 19 I was eligible to take another 45 minute road test to get my full license. No driver training required whatsoever. When I got my CDL at 22, all that was required was that I could pass a written and road test. Again no mandatory driver training. I took a couple lessons anyways but still, driver training is lax at all levels. The worst part is not all kids growning up were lucky enough to have a father who spent 20 years trucking to teach them how to drive.tucker, scottlav46, Big Don and 2 others Thank this.
