Dow plant, Freeport Texas. Safety rant again!

So, once again an hour of my life is wasted renewing a safety card for the 5TH time. Freeport Dow, A, or B plant doesn't matter, have the longest safety video I have ever seen. First off, it was shot in the 80's and is grainy as can be. Pointless as all of them are but much more painful. I especially loved the extra long demonstration of the emergency whislte, that was a nice touch. Now I don't remember what is what, I was playing on my phone at the time but still. Apparently I also need to be aware of plant security and I should promptly report all suspicious activity to include damaged or missing fences. But not missing or faded road or block signs that might actually assist a driver and make him safer, no no, that isn't included. Just be on the lookout for those pesky terrorist, it is well known that middle aged, overweight, unarmed women security guards and chain link fences are kryptonite to terrorist.

Now the really awesome part that makes you feel oh so safe is the second video you have to watch. You have to watch a spotter safety video because apparently, spotting a vehicle is dangerous. Personally I feel that if you get killed spotting a truck you actually help humanity but a digress.

Now here is the truly fun and safe part. The very moment I get to the rack, we promptly violate all the rules and procedures. The loader was standing within a foot of my truck, we did not fill out the Pre-spotter activity card(what do you bet they couldn't find one if I asked) he wasn't wearing reflective clothing and we never discussed how we were going to communicate. How we all survived I will never know but personally I feel I deserve a medal.
