Camera = deal breaker, at least for me. I'm sure a lot of other folks feel the same way as I do, it's unfortunate that our industry has come down to "babysitting". @Steelersjunkie I'm only giving you my opinion because the owners of your company read these threads, I believe they're missing out on a lot of good employees because of that camera. I'm in no way trying to "flame" you, Millis is fortunate to have an asset like you behind the wheel.

Thank you for the compliment
And I know you aren't flaming me, you're just expressing your opinion. Believe me I completely understand and respect your point of view. I definitely had my share of concerns at first. But like I said, I got used to it and it hasn't been an issue for me. When I'm on the road, I talk to drivers from other companies constantly. I'm a naturally curious person. I specifically sought out drivers at first who worked for competing "starter" companies. That was an eye-opener. I gotta say, after everything I learned from them, I'll deal with being monitored. If that's the biggest concern I have, I'd say I've got it pretty good.

So is everyone driving around the same miles on otr or does it end up being up to the dispatcher? I mean obviously people are making money but being new does that mean sometimes we will just sit too? I'm not a lazy person but if I end up sitting there it's not worth it kinda.

I sat once, for 1 day. That's a Florida thing. Getting loads to Florida is easy. Getting loads out is not. Every company out there has to deal with that. But yeah, for the most part I'd say we're all getting about the same miles. And yes, your dispatcher will affect that. When you get your own truck, there's going to be a period where your dispatcher is feeling you out. So you won't get max miles right away, they're going to want to see what you can handle. This really is a pretty easy job. Just work hard and do everything possible to not cause an issue for your dispatcher. And be on time, always. If you do that, you'll get the miles.

Ya do everything your dispatcher asks, even the Lil 100miles runs with no questions, and you will get the miles. Just understand in winter time freight does slow down depending where you are. Last winter Georgia was the black hole of freight. If you hit Georgia late Fri or on the weekend, you were prob going to sit till Monday. There was a small period Richfield was same way. It doesn't happen much, but it's trucking it will happen no matter what company your with. Hell I hit GA one day last winter on a Friday at 3pm and got told I was #58 on list...thought welp here's a reset so wentry in to truck stop ate and grabbed a shower....1.5hrs later hop back in truck to a 1200 mile load lol.

Wow, that's a fast turnaround. I have been #1 on the list before, and didn't get a load til the next morning. Freight is a funny animal some days.

Thanks @Steelersjunkie. Sounds like Millis has a better policy when it comes to the cameras. The camera its self didn't bother me. I volunteered to have it installed during their evaluation period. I just got annoyed by their nit picking. The video that made me decide to remove the camera. Was when a car cut over 3 lanes and cut me off. I had a safe following distance of the vehicle in front of me. I hit the bakes because it was too close for my comfort. Of course it set the camera off. During the video review. I was asked. What could I have done to prevent this from happening again? I honestly told them. Learn to read peoples minds. There was absolutely nothing I could have done.
I do feel better about the cameras now that I know what policy Millis has.Last edited: Feb 27, 2017

Technically, I worked today, so here's my update. I went to my truck, logged in, and drove 20 miles. Got unloaded, and drove 20 miles back lol. Easy breezy. I logged a whopping hour and 10 minutes today. Opie must not be in today, because I was sent another load by dispatch. The pickup was at the same place I dropped off. I had my Qualcomm volume turned all the way down from the other day, and forgot to turn it back up. So I didn't even notice the load come through until I was back at my truck stop. Oops. Oh well. The person filling in obviously didn't know that I am still on my home time. No biggie, a quick phone call took care of that. It would have been a convenient trip though, if I was able to run today. While I was in the truck I added up my miles for the week. 2116. That may sound low, but that's really good for a home week. Opie really took care of me there. We now return you to your home time already in progress

That is the truth. I have had that happen quite a number of times. For example. I had a 150 mile re-power and some other short 200-300 mile loads. At the beginning of the week. I was getting a little irritated. I didn't say anything. It was Friday in Massachusetts. I hate the North East with a loving passion. The only thing worse was Long Island New York. I get empty and drive 10 minutes to the near by T/A. Thinking I am going to sit here for a while. I walk into the T/A. My phone rings. My dispatcher tells me to to ignore the delivery date and location. You can just drop it at the terminal. I said I am inside the T/A. I don't know what load you are talking about. She replied. Oh, you are picking up at 7am (somewhere near by, can't remember) going to Laredo, Tx. 2400+ miles.FalconsFan21 Thanks this.
