As an owner Operator you become a penny pincher. My experience.

I was more referring to the number at the top of the column ... again fuel is only one cost... but I understand, if you want to be just like everyone else in all these plastic wonders then more power to you.... I do just fine in my hood and it does actually help me find a shred of tolerance to remain driving ...I enjoy it more .... so there's that...

how is a 579 more expensive to maintain then a 379? Answer: its not! Answer: it has huge fuel mileage increase
.05 adds up quick per mile... let alone .10 or .15Last edited: Mar 1, 2017

That's a fair statement. I save where I can, I don't drive like a wildman I keep it 60 to 65 and that's good for me... buy fuel at the best price I can ... yes my mpg will be a bit lower than a 579 or other aero counterpart but it's not going to send me to the poor house .... I am also one of these idiots that will spend money on chrome or look cool stuff ... Maybe when I'm old and senile I will think differently....ABadAzzPete, DDlighttruck, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this.

When you have to repair it and the labor is much higher because they have to take the whole thing apart. That's where it's more expensive to maintain.
I also still think the 389 is a better built truck and will last longer and also hold better resale value..Lone Ranger 13, Al. Roper and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Well at least we can agree on that lol...
Run it like a business truck... not like a show truck -
I'd say find a used glider with a 12.7 Detroit or cummins N14. Detroit and cummins parts are cheaper than cats. With the right set up in a 379, you can easily get 6.5mpg depending on set up. Same with a W9 Kenworth. It all boils down to driving habits.
Lone Ranger 13 and PolishPrince Thank this.
