Gave up john deere a few years ago when the bidding war started. just got too cheap.

Having run flatbed under both mileage and percetage, I would choose percentage. About the only way I would run mileage is pay from actual hub miles.

On dead head miles, most companies now will not pay for anything under 75 miles, so you still run some free miles/time.

CPM steady income, first year drivers like this option. Percentage pay various with rates and requires some experience to navigate.

I have to say TMC as well because that is where their percentage maxes out IIRC

Well; that explains it...haven't pulled flatbed in years...and haven't even been trucking over-the-road for a year. When I was pulling flats, Deere paid really good; that is why I used them as an example. My bad for turning the thread.

Hey, no bad here. Yep things do change. At one time, I liked running the Deere loads. Seems the accesory loads out of Valley City paid a bit better than the Iowa loads. Not sure why. did alot of 11.6 loads.

To many carriers have been bending the rules on no brokering. It has been brought to Deeres attention. But they turn a blind eye, because it gets moved cheap...

The consensus I've seen over the years here basically seems to be that percentage is the way to go if you're running short haul or regional, while mileage pay is better for the long haul drivers.

All this plus a couple more.

How does this company get their freight? If it's load board I'd go cpm. I'm hauling some slinkies from Pueblo co to van Buren ar. Cheap cheap freight but I don't care cause I get paid the same. A couple o/o there saying the load just covered their expenses.

What is their avg. Deadhead? If they've got a good lane set up dh could be minimal.

Will they send you the rate con before you accept the load? If not then I'd run. I want to know what it's paying before I accept. I'd never do percentage on forced dispatch either.

Percent vs per mile basically comes down to preference. At the end of the year you will have made the same money one way or the other. Think about it, if one way benefited the company more than the other then they would not give you the option. Some guys like to know what the freight pays, others don't.
As far as the John Deere division and the boat division goes with TMC the drivers are per mile pay no option given. Why?? Because it benefits the company.
