Stepping over dollar bills to pick up nickels I just don't get .2 or even .5 mpg are really going to make or break an owner operator, when you work your truck or operate your business for profit and not practice. .

My math was based on 2k miles a week. Obviously if you do 400 miles a week it's a bit different...

Considering the size of our national oil production position today I really don't mind scenarios where the middle east burns. As long as we aren't involved this time please. I'm not ok with spending a Trillion dollars (literally) so that the oil fields can be busy for a couple of years on a few billion in pay. Bonus points if it happens because we decided we were done playing policeman and the Saudi's got some of what's coming to them.Lone Ranger 13 Thanks this.

Oh yeah the one who dies with the most mpg nickels still dies, the one with the long hood just looks good doing it
Lone Ranger 13, Oxbow, exhausted379 and 3 others Thank this. -
I'll be perfectly honest, I don't understand what's so great about an extended hood and set forward axle. Given a choice, I'd take a T800H over a W900L or exhd 379 every time.

My opinion is quite simple( but what do I know I own a 379)
Buy a truck you like and are comfortable in, comfort and lots of HP makes it easier to want to go to work and for the extra fuel just remember the IRS will be paying 30% of it with the money you don't send them.
With shop rates at $100 plus a hour you save the extra time they spend taking parts off to find your motor. Most parts are put together the old school way with screws and nuts and bolts, not snapped and guled together.
Remember most of the naysayers are just jealous of not being able to drive a real truck.Oxbow, exhausted379, rank and 10 others Thank this. -
My worst load was 2.7 mpg. Empty was already at 50k so I would get right around 6-6.2.

379 the best truck built in the last 30 years! What you save on fuel you'll spend in the shop as they work on emissions crap on that paccar 579 even under warranty your losing money.Cant work when trucks in shop.I don't even consider that a real peterbilt. Also you buy a 379 for say 40k run it for four years and you can sell it for about the same price you bought it for.See that's being a smart business owner.
Lone Ranger 13, Oxbow, exhausted379 and 4 others Thank this. -
I paid 50k for mine 10 years ago, can get more than that now.
