And that is exactly why I dropped my HM endorsement.
Not really much more money, but a lot more hassle and time involved.
Not to mention, the only time I have ever been pulled over while driving a CMV (for an inspection, or any other reason) was because I had a hazmat load.
Karma is my friend sometimes.
Just as the officer was beginning the inspection he was stung by a bee and began to feel ill.
He cut me loose.
But unless I am working at a dedicated HM place, I won't have the endorsement.
The occasional extra load isn't worth the time and money.

Hazmat can be rewarding if you are with a company that shares the wealth. As a "company driver", earning 25% of revenue to the truck I figure I made an additional $10K in 2016. Our company charges an average of 50% more for Hazmat loads.

I pull hazmat most the time it seems.. I don't mindLepton1 Thanks this.

I got an extra $25 for a hazmat load. Think it was worth it?

I didn't get any extra for hazmat load this week but was sitting at over 1k for the week when I broke down Wednesday nite.. so I guess it's worth it to get the long runs I get carrying haz.. I do wish I got payed more for haz though
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Can any members from Los Angeles or familiar with the city help? I'm a recent CDL graduate looking for local, regional, dedicated positions. Anything with regular home time. Really don't want to go OTR I have a newborn and a sick mom and will only go if it's my only option. Thanks.

yes its a tough old world out there when your a newbie your best checking out Werner and Schneider doing 1-2 years with them get a good reference of steady reliable driving then you can pretty much pick where you want to go after that.

@Chinatown
That will be tough because most local want OTR experience. Could try local food hauling companies like Sysco, Coke Cola, Pepsi that sort of thing which you use a trolley for to wheel into the restaurants, food marts, etc. Maybe Goodwill? Sometimes the mega company dollar accounts can get you home but that is a lot of work since you unload yourself.
