Wow.. you guys seem to do alot more trucking than trenton is doing.. they went to wi also, but didn't have to do any night driving, other than early in the am, they luckily got out of illinois before those nasty storms hit.

Yeah we all got some night driving experience on this trip which was great.
We left GA at 4:30am Tuesday morning and rolled into the hotel near the main terminal at Midnight GA time after dropping off a trailer. We were back at the terminal at 7:30a WI time and toured the facilities, met a bunch of people etc. fueled up and bobtailed through snow & ice to just outside of Chicago for a trailer pickup that took 3 attempts to find the right place & then we were smack dab in rush hour traffic, so all of that took a while. Then we drove all night and pulled in to the Cartersville terminal a few minutes before 7am Thursday morning!
It was quite a trip, needed a little sleep after we got back but it was a great experience!

Yes, but it's a trainer truck built from the ground up for the school by Kenworth. It is a T700 that is customized in what is normally the bunk area and instead has 5 captains chairs, one each behind the driver & passenger seats facing each other, and three side by side along the back wall of the cab facing the front of the truck. It is a bit tight with everyone back there and an overnight bag for each to spend the night, but it's not bad, just isn't ideal for trying to get any sleep sitting up.

Wow @FalconsFan21, that's quite an adventure! I'm jealous in a way, that weather as a student is incredible experience! I didn't have much in the way of varying weather conditions in class or in my trainer's truck. But I'm sure getting it now
I am extremely grateful that winter is coming to a close, and daylight savings time is right around the corner. I feel like I've done well in the weather, especially considering it's my first winter. But I'm definitely ready for springtime. I'm glad to hear you and your classmates are doing well. When are you guys finished with class?

Here's today's update. I did very well considering the bad start I had. I looked at the weather last night and decided to start a little late. The snow was supposed to be over around 1 or 2 in the morning. So I slept in a bit, figured I'd be good to leave at 5. Nope. The snow was still coming down. NYDOT was on top of their game, but the roads were still a little hairy for the first 100 miles. It was weird, the roads didn't go from snowy to dry gradually. It was almost instantly. At that point I put the hammer down and had my eyes on southern Kentucky. I made it to good 'ol exit 41 in London. 4 hours to go til Cartersville. I'm hoping that the guys who wash trucks are there tomorrow, my poor truck is covered in salt. I almost stopped sooner but I am paranoid when it comes to pre plans. You never know what can happen in your day that can mess you up. I'd rather err on the side of caution. Once I get the next load hooked, I'll have a more definitive plan for tomorrow. Until then, breathing room is a good thing. I made a side stop today at a Love's. It wasn't a fuel stop. I decided to take advantage of the tires passes I've built up, because I noticed I had a low tire. In theory, it's a handy service. I stopped at 2 places along my route, both didn't have anyone available to perform the service. The third time was a charm, but I had to wait a while for someone to come out because they were understaffed. Typical Love's. It further cemented my opinion of that chain. I'm definitely not a fan. I wish Pilot/Flying J offered that service. Hopefully they will some day. It feels so good to be further south. Temperatures above freezing are a good thing

Our class started with 12 and lost one the first week, two were sent home Friday morning unfortunately because they failed the Backing tests, the rest of us have all next week.
4 will be hiting the road this week like we did last week, the 5 of us that did the road trip are now learning Backing & have to pass the test Thursday. Then we have Orientation the following Mon-Wed. After that we'll be ready to hit the road with our Trainer Drivers!
I feel like we were very fortunate to be exposed to those weather conditions early on & with our Instructor. I think we will have more confidence and knowledge when we face weather in the future because of it. I AM looking forward to nicer weather though, especially since we are about to be out on the road full-time! Stay safe and keep trucking my friend!
