I'm working but 7 yrs you would think there would be minimum sitting. Your right it's LTL, but this place is ridiculous.
7 yrs and still waiting by the phone. It's getting worse at least where I am. To rub salt in the wound purchased transportation is being used. So why hire more drivers so they can sit? Busy to cover the summer vacations then oh well call you. For those of you in terminals that are running out of hours and makin that 90k well all the new hires should know that ain't the norm at ABF and it's getting worse. Contract time soon maybe we can shut them down make some attorneys happy.

Yes vested after 5 Years but varies by local

You were there seven years and still don't work everyday?
Wow! It's got to be your terminal. This is the first I have heard it being this bad. Whatever the case don't waste anymore of your time. Go somewhere else.
Some other LTLs will start you near or at top rate with your experience in LTL.Crusader66 and Lonesome Thank this. -
It may be different in the east but out here it's not good. I hope you don't have to experience it. Slow period should be over, it's March. We still have 50 sitting everyday. I'm going to hang long enough to help shut them down awhile this next contract. Pay cuts, vacation loss, purchased transportation, heavy rail use etc.

After 7 years, maybe its just YOU. Managers have a way of dealing with those who they don't like, for any reason. Arbitrary or not.
-
No there is no problem with that. I'm fine paid my dues just hate to see others hire in with false expectations.

Why I tell people don't chase cpm. What's the point if you don't work. Plus area determines this too. ABF in my area was working too much from what I heard. Guys we're whining about home life. LTL isn't perfect and LTL still into work your way up where people nowadays want their cake and eat it too. People don't want to wait 3-6 years for top out. I surely don't I'm in my late 30's don't want to waste my life waiting til I'm old and grey for top out pay and a bid run. These LTL's want you too wait too long why most people don't stay anymore. I barley stayed at my job cause of the long wait for pay and a good bid. F waiting 15-20yrs just to get weekends off. Some of us have a life after work. But I still waited 5 yrs to get a decent bid. Barely made it if you ask me if it would took longer I'd leave for less pay.
driverjoe1959 Thanks this. -
If you're waiting by the phone, how are you paying your bills? This is why I'm scared to leave my job. Not only do I not want a paycut, but I just can't find a company in my city (Memphis) that I can trust. No endorsements yet either lol

That's my point. I can do this because my wife works otherwise no way. So to work here you got to be able to afford lean times for at least 5-6 years. Other than that it's a great driving job.

What city are you in? The salt lake barn hires all the time, but there's hardly anyone ever there working. I've applied 3 times and always walked out because the break room was filled with guys waiting for work
