Vice grips for those pesky air leaks. Allen and torx wrenches. Air governor on my Detroit is held on by Allen head bolts.

Always good to have a handful of tools. About 27 yrs ago, I rolled in the yard and parked, got out and walked in to the office. Pop as we called him owned the company, he ask how things went and I explained the situation of being broke down on my way in. That day Pop said something I will never forget.... Jim that's what I like about you, I know you will bring the truck back or come walking through the gate with the steering wheel in your hand! 2 other drivers setting there didn't know what yo say.

wore out, DDlighttruck, cnsper and 2 others Thank this.

Yes... vice grips for many things (like sliding tandems)

This will probably complete my list of 'must have' ideas for newer drivers:

Q: How many of us have gotten stuck at a ####ty mud hole truck stop & no one had a chain

A 10,000lbs (or greater) tow strap is ideal in this scenario. Unlike a chain it can absorb some shock load.

You turn the key & nothing happens. Instead of calling road service, try asking for a jump start using a professional set of cables:

Small cables could work but it takes a lot more time. Large cables can also be used to directly jump the starter in case of solenoid failure.

Make sure you carry a spare set of belts and a break over bar for the tensioner.
