Anyone heard how the X15 is panning out?

    I'm a D13 advocate myself.

I'm not looking forward to another new engine. It is a "tuned" ISX is what I read from what I got in the mail. They claim up to 80,000 miles between oil changes - I will believe that when I see it.

I'm more upset with Mack dropping the Titan than I am with them dropping the 16l engines.

I'm curious too. The ISX needed allot of work, hopefully Cummins figured out the emissions system and how to get longer life out of the bottom end.

Well let's see if it comes with a 500K warranty for starters.

Our shop foreman hates the ISX. Says it's the most expensive to work on, in frame, and doesn’t last near as long as DD, let alone a D13.

Your shop Foreman is wrong. A brand new (not a reman) head for a isx is $5800cdn. A reman Volvo head is 10k!

The new Detroit engines have so much extra crap surrounding the engine that labor book time is 25% more than a isx.

Although long term wise, usually the volvo engines seem to last alot longer and even when they do go, it usually just needs a new head as the bottom ends are awesome! So long term cost........

What about the cam shafts that seem to need perpetual replacement, and the labor charge associated with them?

You could argue that both ways though. What about the injectors cups that constantly go out or the faulty injectors. I had a d12 with cup issues, a d13 with cup and injectors issues and a d16 with cups at 80k and injectors at 160k.

I work with 3 guys who in the past year have needed a new head by 350k on Thier d16.

Cummins cams are not as big of a epidemic as you think they are, especially not in the last 5 years since they went over to sohc.

Besides these points, you specifically said "inframe" and a quick phone call to a volvo then cummins stealership will verify that any and every single part needed for a inframe is way more expensive than cummins.

I still like volvo engines, they usually last longer then most others but they've all got Thier crap. I currently own a mbe4000, a 12.7, a d12 and a xe16 (d16), a sdp cat c15, a n14 and a isx 871 and I can tell you that they are all ######## with Thier own problems.
