That arguement won't work with legislatures. As long as truck drivers keep running over hours, hours of service will be heavily enforced. Elogs make enforcement easier.

I can edit my logs if I forget to switch. It gives me a time limit and a geofence area that I can run within before it automatically switches from on duty to driving. There are exemptions for short haul, big day, weather, and personal conveyance. As the administrator, I can choose to allow these provisions or disable them. There are so many variables that you can customize and edit for a 1 truck operation, or an entire fleet.
One issue I have is that you must be on duty to switch to the co-driver, or else you must log out of the unit to make them the primary driver and then log back in as the co-driver. Not a big deal, it takes a whole 15 seconds or so. It affects super solo type teams who might switch between who drives the early shift or the later shift. True teams can just do it after their post trips. -
I'm amazed at what a staunch supporter of elogs you have become.

If a driver, or a company had a history of log violations I could see the argument for an E-log. Similar to the ignition interlock for impaired drivers. But to impose this on businesses carte blanche has no merit and is not rooted in safety. I suspect we we see a study in a few years that finds E-log drivers are no safer than non E-log drivers. Very similar to other ####### rules they've implemented in the last few years.spax, Oscar the KW and wore out Thank this.

How exactly?
-
Because now they don't have to thumb through log pages. Or so they think.
-
They have to wait to get them printed. And the driver has to go through the hassle of printing them. Not to mention the hassle of maintaining a backup paper copy. What a joke.wore out Thanks this.

I agree. How ever most, just see you have em and say have a nice day. They can be doctored just like paper. I do like having them, but only because I was the worst at keep a log current.Oxbow Thanks this.

It isn't support so much as understanding why we got them. When the mandate wad first released...what was it 5 years ago? I knew it was just a matter of time before a deadline was set.
