Been a long week so I'll make this short but I need some opinions. For the last 16 years I've driven dumptrucks, operated heavy equipment, and hauled heavy equipment. For the last ten I've pulled a 37' ramped lowboy trailer and a 53' triaxle RGN trailer. I've hauled at one time or another every piece of construction equipment there is and all sizes. But this has been working for construction companies not trucking companies. Well the latest of 3 companies went under so i decided to go into just trucking full time. I have a class A withX so got into tankers. Here's my question, what generally pays better tanks or heavy haul? Honestly I like heavy better but it's all about the money for me now. Where I'm at I'm getting good miles, hometime, so it's a pretty good gig. What could I expect doing heavy as far as home time, miles, and pay scales?
Should i stay or should i go?

Wattie, it seems to me there's good and not so good about every avenue of transportation.
You can get more pay, but short miles. You can get good pay and lots of miles, be away from home for months on end. I think that if you're going to be around driving for a while, choose what you like to do best. You know, you want to be home, or you want to run 150K/year, you want to use your HM, terminal is close to home, like that. Whatever you choose, if you pretty much like that driving niche, you'll be OK. Best. J

So basically you've worked for wages instead of on a cents per mile basis. The only challenge your going to have if you decide to go OTR will be getting enough miles per day/week and getting your loads delivered on time.
