Don't remember the exact years, early 2000's ??, but Dickies opened in the Vince Lombardi Svc Plaza on the NJTP. It was a welcome change from the Burger King and i think a Nathans. Only lasted a couple of years as i guess their sales did not meet expectations for that part of the country. But it was a bit of Texas for us guys that liked it and were from Texas.

Outside of KC around Independence, I used to pull in and park at Gates. Best burnt ends in KC imo, to die for! It was fairly tight and at peak times probably difficult if not impossible but I pulled in there a couple times during the early afternoon. It burned down a while back but was rebuilt, so I don't know if anything has changed in terms of the setup

Having spent most of my life in San Antonio and south Texas, I miss Bill Millers not having them around except rarely now.

Working man's place. Good food at sensible prices. Great tea and deserts and I love their fried potatoes.

I have had BBQ from all over the country...I even lived in the BBQ capital of NC......Totally different vinegar based but good pork BBQ...

Some of the best I have ever had has been from little hole in the wall places in Texas!..
There used to be an old man that set up in the rest area down 59 south of Houston...AWESOME!..
He would sure take care of truck drivers and gave us a huge plate!..Had potato salad, baked beans, cornbread and usually brisket, ribs and chicken and sausage.

I'm sure now days they probably would not let people setup in a rest area....

This post made me hungry for something on the smoker!
I just put 2 big racks of baby backs on with some Mesquite wood :)

There is a BBQ place right next to the Pilot in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. exit 143 on I-40... if memory servers me correctly it's called Rochelle's BBQ

I just had the ribs at the KC Baby Back Ribs place in Oak Grove Mo next to the Petro mentioned before. They were awesome.

There is place called Bodacious BBQ on 271 right near Paris Texas and down the block from Campbells Soup. Has truck parking... but I didn't stop....
