Good for you. It takes a while to find the right niche in trucking. Do you like living in Texas as opposed to Idaho?Razororange and negativecold13 Thank this.

I got to tell you that I love Texas, mostly Deep East Texas...however, I have been down to Corpus Christie to Brownsville, up to Midland, Amarillo, to Dallas, Austin, Houston and everywhere in between...The food is great everywhere but San Antonio has best Tacos and Tamales...BBQ is good everywhere, a little different between regions but all really good...will be buying a house in next few months and loooking at Mineola and East, maybe slighlty south to Louisiana...Love that Cajun and Creole....possible Caddo Lake...I do miss the mountains, flyfishing, up in Idaho, but have decided it will be my vaca spot...then come back to the warm...in fact ive been running that Dallas to Florida route so long i forgot it was still winter up here and had to get coat, hat and gloves in Colorado....Yes Sir, Texas works for me...IluvCATS, snowman_w900 and Razororange Thank this.

A success story.
A driver that went down the road less traveled. Instead of looking to recruiters and starting flatbedding at another entry level company, you beat the bushes and found your own gig. Congrats.
Have you noticed, that no matter where you go in North America, that the smaller companies outnumber the mega carriers 5 to 1? The next time you run down the road, count them. For every Swift and CREngland and Werner out there, you will see 5 trucks that most have never heard of. YET, many limit themselves to the choices that they hear about when they met with the recruiters in school. They could actually go out and find a better job, but that would require EFFORT on their part and the recruiter gave them a nice sunshine injection in Uranus and a prehire letter and told them all about how they can get a coveted gig doing a dedicated Dollar General. Wow! Imagine landing a goldmine without ever having to dig or put forth any effort! Sounds too good to be true!
I like hearing success stories like yours. You invested in yourself. Any investments that we do for self have to pay off. Quick return on the investment, and longterm looks good too. 1 month, people. A driver looked to make a change a month ago. But if you're a lurker following the story, you are probably reading FLATBED, TEXAS, CANADA, WINTER.
"Ohhh, no! Not me! Too cold! Too much work! Too hard! I'd rather stay in the warm cab and be a doorslammer." Whatever makes you feel safe.
Anyways, Mr @negativecold13, I salute you. Next adult beverage is in your honor. By the way, be sure to take some pictures and add your pics and adventures to the picture thread. Welcome to the Cool Kids.
Luck in battle. -
Nice work @negativecold13
Six summed up what most of us in this section preach over and over. Set your sights a little higher then the average guy and look what happens.
By the way any fish caught must have their photos posted here. -

See! You GET IT! It's not about the money. People ask all the time which should they go, van or flatbed... and they try to factor in the money. If they have to ask, vans would be better. Not dissing van people. I started out in a reefer. I looked at a flatbed truck. I said to myself, 'THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO DO!" That truck! That trailer! That freight! Scares the hell out of me. I get paranoid about losing a load or something falling off, BUT that's what I want to do.
After every load, after the bills are signed, and the trailer is empty, and I am putting up the securement, I feel great. I am doing what I want to do.Rocketfire, Musashi, Al. Roper and 13 others Thank this.
