@EatYourVeggies
I've been cycling for years.... just not recently.. no I hadn't planned on riding a 50 off the bat but, I could go out right now and ride a 15 (cycling has always been easy for me especially when compared to running. Of course my average would be around 12 mph instead of 20 LOL).
I can, and have fixed my own bicycles (and vehicles) over the years. The bike I have now I bought new but the one I had before that I put 10,000 miles on, in less then three years. It was an old steel heavyweight Schwinn. I rode it as my only transportation and had to re-adjust many things after. Once I had to clean and re-grease the rear wheel bearings (easier then replacing the front bearings on my PU truck!). I still miss that bike even though it was waaaaaay too big and heavy but the entire drive train needed to be replaced and it wasn't worth putting money into something that hurt to ride!
While looking at gym memberships I was focusing on availability and national use... so far Planet Fitness seems to be my top pick But I think I'll try out bringing the bike first since I already own it. If in the 2-3 months I will be otr, I don't use it because it's a pain to get out of the truck, I'll go with a membership. And by then, I will have an idea of what states I drive in most and areas for resets.
@Highway Hypnosis
Those are cute and everything but too slow. I prefer to ride on the road and go FAST! lol
@lovesthedrive
I will be driving for Roehl National dry van fleet. I don't need home time as the road is already my home. I am about to schedule my DOT med exam. Just came to the library to fill out their questionnaire (so thank God I'm not typing this on my phone!)Last edited: Mar 7, 2017
BlueThunderr and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
When I first hit the road i had memberships at 3 different gyms.
It quickly became apparent that the only one i needed over the road was Anytime Fitness.
3,000 locations nationwide.
I set up my Garmin's "up ahead" feature to show me every Anytime Fitness coming up on my route.
I trip plan at the beginning of the day using "up ahead" and Google Earth to figure out which gym location I'm going to hit based on the parking lots.
Even if their parking lot isn't truck friendly, a lot of times they are next door to somewhere with an easy parking lot like a Walmart or a grocery store. -
Yeah, Anytime Fitness is another good one because you can access it any time - hence the name.
If I didn't have a membership at 24hr, I'd definitely look into it.bentstrider83 Thanks this. -
I still retain my 24 Hour Fitness Super-Sport membership despite not being anywhere near one at the moment. When I was long haul and domiciled out of CA, I carried my mountain bike on the truck and if I found one within 5-12 miles of where I was parked, it was field-trip time!!!
That and it's one of the few chains that had a pool/spa area accessible at all hours of the day/night.
Small town living for four years now and I'm still not used to the limited amenities at the local gyms around here.

I'M currently in a rural/small town area as well though it's a string of small towns along 2 business routes so if one town doesn't have something, than another will.... however, I hate living in small towns. You absolutely must have a vehicle because at any given time you may have to drive 20+ miles to get to anywhere!
I did the trail riding thing a few times when I lived in WI. Liked it a lot, until I became allergic to poison ivy. -
all yah gotta do now is made enough to pay for a good diet and make time to exercise / work out.
some ta / petros have exercise rooms or a small gym. -
Planet Fitness. Open 24/7, showers and lockers. $20.00 a month for the nationwide plan.
-
I've read that before but I've been to few in different areas of the country... Never seen one that had any.
However, I love taking showers at truck stops. Big bathroom with massive showers and unlimited supply of hot water and excellent water pressure.
I've heard a few stories of crappy ones but I have been fortunate enough not to visit any! -
I do see em here and there, i havent looked but might try their website for locations,
