CB shops?

Hopefully your company shop knows what they're doing. How a CB transceiver operates seems to be a mystery to most.

 

That is so true. Mechanics and CBs don't seem to mix very well!!

 

Lee is a twin final 50 watt radio... I could see a HP40W pushing "135" watts but not a Lee.

Cobra 29s don't do 50 watts or even close, no matter what anyone told you, nor what you saw on a watt meter. As soon as distortion and harmonics are present, watt meters become useless as the harmonics essentially trick them to swing higher. All watt meters are subject to this, even the venerable and expensive Bird units.

I promise you any "50 watt" Cobra 29 looks like the enchanted forest on a spectrum analyzer.

 

My cobra29 is "high output" with a different final, fully tuned and all. I can push 18 watts, no way to push 50 on these.

 

Yep. That IRF520 mosfet gives you an extra half to one watt, with a proper tune and alignment, and is more fragile than the original 2sc2078 bipolar unit.

 

Good luck finding performance like this east of the Mississippi River.

 

No clue what is actually in it, I just remember he replaced a few different components. Shows between 15-19 depending whose meter it is hooked to, and has held up pretty well. Radio has been going strong for almost a decade, mixture of oil field/aggregate/OTR, nightwatch illumination burned out by 2010 though. Not shabby for a 220$ radio....

Know a guy who says he gets 60 watts out of a cobra 29.... I smell doo doo and it stinks

 

I've got a Cobra 25 with a 2SC1969 and appropriate driver in it. I forget what it will do, but I get "big radio" comments on it just using a Lil Wil antenna.
