I'm not from the East, but I remember when Monkey Wards was doing well. And then they started scrambling trying to compete with Sears Roebuck.
I think there huge appliance department may have been their last gasp. What was it called? I can't remember now, just that they had an isle called appliance something that formed a cross, with both rows of the cross running from outside walls to outside walls, lined up with appliances.
Not at all familiar with Ames.
Sears bought Kmart several years ago, and proceeded to screw them up. Both stores are in trouble.
Years ago, Sears had "catalog stores" in small towns across the country. These stores we owned by local people, and franchised by Sears. Sears suddenly shut down their catalogue sales, and put these stores out of business. I lost any liking I ever had for Sears over this.
Then, several years later, Sears started opening these small local stores that have tools and appliances. They franchised these stores out.
Then they came along and undercut these stores by putting Craftsman tools into Kmart. For the past few years, they've been putting Craftsman in Ace Hardware Stores.
Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.
I've used them for the target practice when I lived in a rural desert area!
OK for an outhouse. But don't flush worth a sh--!
We still have both Sears and Kmart in St. George. Never had a Gordmans here though.
They have had decades of mismanagement. Wholesale firing of corporate dead wood, replaced with more dead wood.
They started moving away from retail sales several years ago, and concentrated on their so called financial services. Then tried to rebuild their retail again.
Man that is going to make a bunch of hoity-toity women very sad.
Kohl's would be OK, if they carried "Man Size" clothing! Pisses me off to see things I'd like to buy, but wouldn't ever have fit into.
I used to have Realistic police scanners in my radio cars. Back when every agency had their own frequencies, and no communication between them.Toomanybikes, KillingTime, 4mer trucker and 4 others Thank this. -
