Is this a worthless thought?

    If you get you own authority, you have to supply your own carrier insurance. That will be around $1500 a month for you starting out. Also, you will have to start paying for your own fuel.

    You need the insurance before authority can be active, don't ya?

    And what if the load got damaged. Who's insurance pays for it. He's hauling under his # but the truck hauling is under another #. I could see the 2 insurances both not wanting to pay.

    Not a thing in the world wrong with looking at things from a different angle, aka "thinking outside the box." Nor is there anything wrong with looking to improve your situation, from both a financial and a job satisfaction angle.
    FWIW, the folks who told you that you have a job others would love to have, are absolutely right. But that doesn't mean that job is what you should think of as being at the height of your career.
