Hey guys, new to the forum. For a bit now I have been wanting to get into the car hauling business. Found this forum and decided to see if you guys could answer some questions I have.

    The skinny:
My buddy and I want to open the business together. We want to buy a new ram 3500 dually with a used/new 3/4 car wedge.

    Questions:

Do you guys think we can make it work? We don't plan on making a crazy amount of money any time soon.

Should we try to double up and both get a dually and a wedge and work separate?

We are in so cal if that makes any difference. We are currently working on getting our cdl at the moment. We are just two guys who are trying something different and hoping to create a successful car hauler business.

Any info would help. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Times are not good right now for car hauling. And even if they were going into business with a friend or family member is never a good idea. So separate trucks for sure

Lol I was thinking the same thing.

On a serious note what part of you can buy a single axle semi for the price of a new dually do people not understand. (shakes head.......)

I just have to believe that most of this is all about circumventing the CDL? Otherwise I just can't understand all of these pick ups???

You can get a class 8 truck for the same price as a dually.
Dually's are not made to haul continously, and is just a poor choice.

The O/P clearly stated they were currently working on getting their CDL. Obviously not trying to circumvent it. Others maybe or they prefer driving a pickup for whatever reason.

WHY, would you ever consider buying a pickup if you were weeks or months from getting your CDL, kinda like putting the horse before the cart, not?

My guess is it's easier to finance or lease a dually than a commercial class 8.
