Just seems backwards to me? I would think you would want CDL in hand, and solid quotes for insurance, registration, licence, authority, and workman's Comp, (if applicable) Before I spent the money on equipment. jmhoyb226, brian991219 and crb Thank this.

There you go thinking like a business man.....Tropsnart, Hammer166, Mike2633 and 1 other person Thank this.

I agree with you 100%. I have yet to even attempt to purchase any equipment. Im only trying to figure out what direction we should go so that me and my friend wont be underwater in a couple months. I am doing some homework because we dont have a crazy amount of $$ to begin.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this.

Yeah you could get an old beer hauler Freightliner M2 semi with 6 speed automatic and haul all the cars you want for the same price (probably even a tad cheaper) then a brand new Ford Dually truck and the M2 Class 7 single axle semi will haul haul haul because that's what it's built to do. Day in and day out.tech10171968, KANSAS TRANSIT, laylow909 and 1 other person Thank this.

They are inquiring atm, it's not like they already put a down payment on anything. Someone asks a question and folks jump to all kinds of conclusions. They are asking about the feasibility, I highly doubt they have put any horses or carriages anywhere, in any order.KANSAS TRANSIT and laylow909 Thank this.

Why don't you run teams with some freight hauler for awhile and get some more cash built up.
TWT Refrigerated Service pays teams .60 cpm and hires new cdl grads.
Also look at the website "lilbigrig" for some nice heavy duty pickups set up with a sleeper. -
They're in California so need something CARB Compliant.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this.

We had them at the beer company when I worked there, they updated the tractor fleet and we had Freightliner M2 single axles with DEF tanks they were California Certified Clean Idol.Chinatown Thanks this.

I started with a dually, now drive a class 7 with a huge sleeper. Looking to move to a class 8 soon. If I had it to do all over again I would have started in a class 8 to begin with. VERY expensive lesson learned. The class 7 and 8 trucks are made to constantly haul heavy loads. A dually "CAN" do it but when doing it all day, every day they wear out in no time and a motor for a class 8 is no more expensive than a motor for a dually, in fact, in many cases it costs less.
WAY better brakes in a class 7 or 8.
Tires, while more expensive last many times longer.
You sit higher so you can see way down the road and anticipate emergency situations much sooner.
Driving in town is actually easier in a 7-8 because other drivers more often understand and expect the challenges of driving a large vehicle with a long trailer. Especially when your forced to go across lanes to make a right turn. In a dually all they see is some idiot in a pick-up that has no idea WTF he is doing. They never even notice the trailer.
When your ready to move up to a larger trailer the class 7-8 truck can pull it so your investment in the truck remains and you don't have to start all over again finding a truck and then making it "Right".
As for the whole idea of jumping right from "About to get my CDL" to owner operator you might want to give the following thread a read: https://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/threads/new-to-car-hauling.337269/
Good luck!tech10171968, laylow909 and Terry270 Thank this.
