Only one judge of people on this planet..and he's a carpenter...not a Super Trucker.

Even though you didn't smoke it you were in a room full of people who were its the same deal, don't smoke it and don't stay in a room full of people that do or you'll get it in your system anyway. Stay clear of drugs if you want to drive OTR.

This is an interesting topic to me. Up here, not only has pot been decriminalized (may as well just call it legal) but it's also being prescribed by the wheel barrow load to some people for pain medication. SO......let's say I hire a driver and he subsequently gets a prescription for weed and it shows up on a test. I can't tell if he's stoned at work so I can't put him in a truck but can I fire him? It would probably be wrongful dismissal.

If one is "hurting" so bad to require a script for weed, he likely shouldn't be driving a rig anyway, nor would he want to, as it's easier up here to just apply and receive disability.....
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I wonder what it would feel like to drive a rig, while high. Just saying. What would your excuse be for rolling the truck... "Sorry officer, I was just thinking about my life, and then some deep thoughts about stuff, and then I started having a vivid, fantastic daydream where my thoughts were accelerating too rapidly, and I think I hallucinated someone was crossing the road, but I think it was just the shadow from the road sign, and I just overreacted , I was like, totally paranoid man." Yeah, that entire monologue was in the voice of The Dude by the way.

Yes you can fire him.

I'm going to play devil's advocate.
Breaking the law aside. I see no problem with pot and trucking if they're 24 hours apart.
Home on Friday? Smoke pot on Saturday. Rest on Sunday. Truck on Monday. Is there a problem with this? I don't see how pot would impair that driver on Monday.Edjahman, Badmon, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Being in the first state to legalize it, I see the arguments all the time. I get in arguments all the time with the pro-pot people, they are the dumbest humans on the planet.
Quotes:
If all pilots smoked pot, planes would never crash...............
If cops got stoned more, they would be more low key and not so quick to shoot or arrest people
I can drive stoned better than you can sober----so this moron and I went round and round for three days on this, finally ended up blocking him. Once he made that comment, I challenged him at least 2 dozen times to prove it. Talked to friends who were cops that were willing to set up a road safety course and do driving tests.
My Dr. gets high on the weekends, he's not had a problem -- Ok, how long between using pot and seeing patients does your Dr. go?
You can't OD on pot, so it's the safest substance on earth, safer than oxygen. Ok, you can't OD on it, but you can still kill or injure someone by driving drunk on it.
That all aside, the day pot was legalized, coworkers brother was observed standing in line at one of the dispensaries. Local TV crew was filming, and there he was. He had called in sick that morning to his very cushy job with a local oilfield company. The next day, when he went into to work, they sent him for a random, he failed and was fired. 10 yrs with the company.
Pot users forget it stays in their system and can show up for days, or weeks afterwards. There is no excuse for it, there is no tolerance for it. I know guys who've got DUI's for taking Nyquil and similar cold/flu meds. Someone else brought up Benadryl, Benadryl is only dangerous if you take it and drive, since the label contains bold type telling you it will make you drowsy, if you take it and drive, you're the idiot, not the Benadryl.
Since I also drive for Uber/Lyft on the weekends, you would be amazed the number of drivers I've picked up from various truck stops around town and taken to dispensaries. It's insane, realistically I can't say a word to them without risk of a complaint and losing my job, and since I have to pick them up in the front, I have no idea the company name on the truck to even lodge a complaint. But, there again, I know Uber/Lyft drivers who try to justify driving stoned as well. When you ask them what happens if they have an accident, they say "oh, I won't, it doesn't impair me"pattyj, Toomanybikes, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this.
