In my time with dht I did one swap with a team. It's not an ordeal for solo's, teams aren't constantly taking loads they have thier own loads to deliver. But a team is a valuable asset and if a loads gotta get there and a solo can't make it a teams gonna get it. doesn't matter what company you work for that's how it's always gonna be. But not a pandemic just normal logistics.

I left dht cause I went over to run open deck but if I ever go back to van I'd go back to dht. Excellent lanes to run and just quaint little outfit. I had no complaints I wish I had went to them earlier while I was running van. On the money side I posted my half a year w2 a few pages back, which if I ran harder I could have improved. good money, also you control your per diem (no payroll per diem) you get to claim what you want to at tax time and not get charged like some companies will do to deduct it every pay. Which is good if you need a loan and wanna show the bank maximum salary or if want the maximum tax free money allowed.

I agree the per diem option is important. Any outfit who does mandatory per diem is a joke in my eyes.

I see the DHT guys in the lanes I run and I've gotten some mixed feed back. There are drivers like you who've had great experience. But I've spoken with drivers who simply are not getting enough miles - no matter how hard they're willing to run.

Well, every mega and mid-size outfits have lousy dispatchers who cling to their jobs with spectacular brown-nosing skills (or perhaps other skills which require knee pads...?).

The drivers I've spoken to tell me they cannot change dispatchers. I don't know if this is true or not, just what I heard.

It's a regional dispatch. You have a main dispatcher then when in laredo, Laredo will dispatch then el paso so it's kind of a rotating dispatch.

Ran with DHT for a while here. My experience was that the Equipment was outstanding. The loads were outstanding. I enjoy Mexico border runs and that was about all they do. The people in the office were easy to get along with. My problem was the pay. 38cpm base pay for a guy with over 5+ years experience is too low. Now I understand they have an intricate bonus system in place, fuel and safety and it could add an additional 10 cpm BUT I realized that 1 minor ding would cut that to about 8 CPM, low miles would shave off another couple CPM and before you knew it your in the low to mid 40cpm range. Fair but not outstanding. Then I took a step back and looked at what it would take me to get the mileage bonuses. 12000 miles per month, during the winter forget about it. And during the summer etc you're averaging 3k a week. 60-70 hours a week EVERY WEEK. now I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm getting older and I can do a 70 week ok, the second 70 hour week in a row starts to wear on me, and after the 3rd its just hell. I'm not willing to work that hard anymore, SO, given that My actual pay was going to be in the 42ish CPM There were just better options out there for me.

Over all they are a good company, They wont work for everyone though and you better be a serious road warrior if you plan to maximize earnings there.

This, more or less, aligns with my assessment on DHT after private conversations with several current drivers I met on the road.

Like you, I simply don't see the need to grind out 70 hours week after week after week. And you make a good point regarding the winter months.

If people are willing to become trainers and do some recruiting on the side...I can see them doing better. However, those paychecks are not - I believe - indicative of what the typical solo earns. This should be self-evident, but I suspect there are rookies (and even some veterans) who see screenshots of a few pay stubs and fail to see the big picture.
