On 7 off 7, that's basically 2500 in a week out. Still pretty pathetic but when they're constantly trying to get a driver home not going to get much more than 2500 a week due to limitations. There's no other way the guy is only getting 5000 miles in a month.

Driver needs to #### or get off the pot. Maybe even do the 7 on 3 off, 7 on 4 off if home time is so important. Roehl is notorious for these excess hometime programs.

Did you really call the office to find out turn over? I find it hard to believe that companies would release that info, especially to a disgruntled driver.

 

Maybe you should use that new CDL at a different carrier?

 

They absolutely do release "turn over rate" information. I am new to trucking and every recruiter that I have talked to one of the last questions I ask them is their turn over percentage. The national average is 125% therefore, anything under 90% is considered low turn over. Understand there are a lot of factors that go into the turn over rate percentage not just drivers that quit etc. There are only a couple of smaller companies that I have found in the 50% average but most of them are in the 80% or higher average. So, make sure you are asking recruiters what their company turn over rate is these statistics are given to recruiters on a regular basis. BTW, Roehl has an 83% turn over rate as of March 2017.

 

I'm currently with Roehl, working the 7/4 7/3 fleet because my hometime IS a priority. And thus far, I have zero complaints about the miles or the money. My fleet managers (I have two) make it a priority to maximize the productivity of my truck during my time out on the road, which in turn maximizes my paycheck.

Do I have "short" weeks in terms of pay? Sure! If I leave out Thursday morning, but only get one or two short trips in before payroll closes for the week (Saturday @ midnight central time), that following Thursday's check is going to be a bit light. But it gets made up for the following paycheck.

I pull a dry van now, as opposed to an open deck, and I've been averaging 2300-2500 miles per week. I get paid fairly for the work I accomplish, my trick is in great condition, and I haven't yet (fingers crossed) encountered a bad trailer.

Is the Hometime Plus option good for everyone? No, of course not. But for semi-retired drivers, or drivers who want more time at home with family while accepting less pay over the course of a month, it works very well.

I've been chasing money and miles for danged close to 20 years (19 years officially come June of this year). I've been both wealthy and dirt poor in that time. I've struggled, sacrificed, and celebrated. And I'm more than ready to kick back amd discover all the things in life that I've missed out on while living in someone else's blasted truck.

I'm 41 years old this year. I've been working since I was 12, driving since I was 22. I've done my bit.

 

I laugh when I think back about all the stuff I got away with.

Weekly. Payroll closes Saturday at midnight Central Time, payday is the following Thursday.
