at work we run 2014 and 2015 Volvo's with 600hp d16 engines, the best thing you can do is regen the engine as soon as the light comes on. a lot of the drivers here don't want to spare a few minutes to do the regen and the dpf eventually gets plugged to the point where the engine shuts off, wont run for long, throws up fault codes, and then at that point requires a forced regen so we have to hook it up to Volvo's tech tool program and do a forced regen which takes about 2 hours and fills the entire shop with smoke. my best advice, just regen the engine whenever it requires it, don't put it off because later down the road its more of a pain and if you don't have tech tool then you'd most likely need a mechanic to come out and do it which is big bucks, tech tool is about $500-600 for the program but its the best piece of equipment you can get in my opinion, it allows us to change all the parameters, we can change injector duration, turbo boost pressure, make the engine gain power, change how it performs, reset anything, find out exactly what any problem the truck is having also sometimes find out anything lacking on the truck that's prone to fail
