Hello,
I am a FL CDL A holder and would like to add Passenger endorsement. My questions is What do I have to do? Do I sign up for bus driving school? Thanks

You will need to take a written test for passenger and take a road test in a bus. Shouldn't have to attend a school but you will need to get your hands on a bus somehow. If you want to drive school bus then that is an additional test. Best thing would be to test in a school bus then you are covered for everything.
Disclaimer: this is based on Wisconsin. I'm just assuming your state is the same, you will need to verify.CrappieJunkie Thanks this. -
he holds a Florida CDL A but in Illinois and Indiana you don't need a bus to get a passenger endorsement. You can get a P endorsement with a box truck or van too. Study book, take written test then a road test. Do not sign up for a driving school to get a endorsement. What kind of bus are we talking about? school bus, charter bus, mini bus, ect. The DMV should be able to answer your ?Last edited: Mar 25, 2017
Kyle G. Thanks this. -
In Texas, school bus endorsement requires an actual school bus. But Passenger endorsement can be a standard bus or even an extended van that seats more than 15 people.

I agree. I carry a Charter bus, School bus and Passenger endorsement.

Thanks everyone. I'll just take the written test for now and find how I could take the driving test. Im interested in applying for a City bus driver and or Motor coach that is why I wanted the endorsement.

In Illinois there is no additional testing required to drive a city transit bus. Your class A plus passenger endorsement is good enough. Now charter or school buses require a additional road test & endorsements. City transit buses are usually ran by government agencies and have their own training program that meets state and federal laws. I would just get the endorsement and apply with them. They will train and supply you the bus for the road test. That would save you thousands of dollars vs attending a for profit cdl school.ricepower06 Thanks this.

If you never drove a bus before you'll need to go thru training but it won't be as long as driving trk.ricepower06 Thanks this.

I think just about all the motor coach companies (at least around here) offer in-house training and testing, so you might be able to hire on before you even do anything. Just a thought.ricepower06 Thanks this.

Endorsements
"Endorsement" means a special authorization, which permits a driver to drive certain types of vehicles or to transport certain types of property or a certain number of passengers. The following endorsements can be placed on Class A, B, or C commercial driver licenses.
P. (Passengers) - Issued to those who have passed the required written and skills test and who will drive passenger vehicles.
