I am a resident of New York City. I drive a tractor-trailer-tank hauling gasoline and ULSD in the 5 boroughs and long island. I am planning on a move to Texas by the end of the year. Is it true I'll need to retake a cdl driving test-written test and hazmat all over again to transfer my cdl from NY state to Texas? Seems like a lot of beauracracy but I guess I didn't consider it. Not that it won't be difficult I have to deal with double parked cars on city streets and tight stations in high populated areas so I'm sure i could handle texas roads...why can't things just be simple? Anyway is this true?
Moving to Texas will i need to re-do everything just to be a licenced carrier over there?

probably just the CDL written test, however, some states will have you start from scratch ( I've heard Illinois does this) . Plus your driving record plays into it. Good luck

Just the written for the hazmat as long are your NY CDL is valid. You will also have to do another background check. But TX gives you 90 days to do that.
Also make sure you bring your medical card, your ss card, and proof of address and birth certificate. They will take just about any current utlity bill. If you dont have a ss card they will accept your latest W2. -
So I just need to do a written hazmat and finger printing again? Do you live in Texas to confirm?
-
Yes and yes.
-
How do you produce a utility bill when you JUST moved there?
-
A letter from the utility company works as well
-
Or lease agreement
