I talked with a recruiter on the phone a couple days after I posted here to get info on the job. I filled out one of their online applications but didn't hear anything from them even though the guy told me he'd be on the look out for my application. So last Wednesday I talked with another recruiter online to get an update on my application and was offered a NE Regional run with their Rist division but told him I was applying for the home daily milk hauling position. I was told to add more job history to my app even though they claim to only go back three years; after I did that I let the recruiter know I updated my info and he said he'd get me an interview set up. I haven't heard from them since so I don't know what's going on. I figured it wouldn't take that long to call me to schedule an interview.

Is it more the company or more that trucking isn't for you? Did you get home on weekends like they claim? I mean what happened exactly?

I am curious as well. To quote ad356 "the money is just not enough to justify this aweful lifestyle. hygiene be ######, lonely, miserable life."

I have been driving since January of 2004. I was in school for 2 months and with my trainer for 2 months. I was assigned my first truck January of 2004. My first train I had only lasted a week. During our sleeper break on the PA Turnpike. I walked into the plaza with my stuff and called the company. I told them I refused to get back in the truck. An incident happened of which I am not going to go into. Let's just say it didn't end well for him.

This career/lifestyle isn't for everyone. When I started as a new driver. I would say the pay wasn't worth all the crap I had to deal with. I started at 25 cpm. You can only learn so much from your trainer. The rest is all on you. My second trainer had 35 years of experience. He told me to not to give up during the first year. He didn't just teach me about driving the truck. He taught me how to live on the road.

I can say after 13 years that it hasn't been miserable. Sure there are many down days, weeks, months. There are also the upbeat ones as well. It has a lot to do with time management. When it comes to maintaining a decent quality of life.
Every year I look back and think to myself. I have accomplished something that many people haven't. I have seen more of the country than most people have.

Should you hang it up or continue? That is a question many of us have asked ourselves. It all depends on what you want out of it. I had 4 years in a cubicle and 4 years driving my car for work. The one year I drove 40,000 miles. It was then I realized what I enjoyed. It was the driving. I thought. I could get paid to see the country. The way I looked at my schedule of 3, 4 weeks on 1 week off. (my choice) I had a 1 week vacation every 3 to 4 weeks. Plus I had 1 week and sometimes 2 weeks paid vacation.
