Because trucking is a labor of love.you don't do it for the money, you do it for the freedom and the adventure.
homeskillet Thanks this. -
Ok, so having CDL in hand is a win, but does it matter how I put it in my hand? Thats what I'm saying. I can get it from community college and I can get it from taking my permit to 1 day CDL and have it in 1/3 of the time. Will they care about one over the other since they are training me?
-
Thanks for clarifying. He's probably on the go or something but the sentence fragment thing was really messing me up.

Matter of fact if they have the school i would go with just my permit.
But if the community colledge gives a certificate you maybe able to skip the school altogether and go straight out with a driver finisher , as they are called in some circles.

All these things (and more) are included in your CPM. They didn't tell you? -
I must have missed that in orientation d**n daydreaming.

The community college cdl means you'll skip the trucking company cdl training and just go through load securement and orientation before hitting the road with a trainer.
Either one is a benefit.Last edited: Apr 7, 2017
FireLotus, Flyingdutchman1982 and CallmeJW Thank this. -
Having a new CDL is not enough to get a job. Every trucking company knows a CDL does not mean you can drive and more importantly the insurance companies and lawyers know this. That's why you have to go thru some training. So if you ever in accident the trucking company can show paperwork that says you had training and not just a one day driving class and got a CDL.

Imagine you tell dispatch you can't make the delivery ontime. Their just is not enough time. They call the receiver and they say, second shift can unload the truck. So after driving all day 500 miles I show up and second shift know nothing about unloading truck. They actually tell you if you not on the list we can't do anything. Then the guy says we are in a good mood and we can work you in but it will take like 2 hours.
After driving all day I only have 2.5 hours and then I can't move the truck till taking 10 hour break. I was under the impression they would unload truck right away so I could get to truck stop before running out of hours.
Nope I'm stuck in parking lot no bathroom but their is food you just have to unhook trailer and bobtail and it only 0.8 miles away so you drive their and back without the ELD going off an putting you in log book violation
I got new 2017 truck and it sure looks nice but a shower and bathroom would be nice but that's the fun side of trucking. Dispatch also said I can go home for the weekend if I want to but the load can't be late
The load pickup is Friday at noon and delivery is Sunday 9am and is 800 miles for the trip. So basically I can't go home because then the load will be late. So I will get an extra $100 just for sitting at the truck stop the weekend, plus my guaranteed minimum weekly pay plus some extra money for mileage pay because we get paid extra money if we drive over 2,500 miles a week. So I'll be making money but not getting home. I have nice new truck. I might even get it washed over the weekend. Company said take pride in my ride and they will pay for it ! so why not
