I was 18 yo on that weekend and wanted to go but just couldn't afford to do it. Looking back the 1960's and early 70's were a entirely different world.
Shock Therapy, Dna Mach and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Ahh, Olongapo and Kowloon . Just the mention puts a faint smile on my face that no one who's never been there can begin to understand.Shock Therapy and Chinatown Thank this.

There is a nice memorial on that site and a museum.

I remember the information and pictures coming out of the area as a child during that event. It was essentially a mudhole when they expected like 10,000 and got 100,000 instead.
Piped up why are those two laying down? Silence in heaven for half a hour in that house. The ranting started around dinnertime.Shock Therapy Thanks this. -
Yawn, remember it well, I didn't go but my uncle was one of the promoters from Atlantic assigned to work with Lang and others in production of it. It wasn't a big deal then until Atlantic and other companies decided to hype it up, make it into a legend where everyone who is someone today was at Woodstock.
The good thing that came out of it for me was the posters and promo albums that I got in the mail from my uncle, some of them were signed - I don't remember who signed them and they've been "preserved" in storage for the past 30 years.
It was then and is now a capitalist's wet dream, the money they made off of the "stinky hippies" was amazing, utterly amazing.x1Heavy and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
I can understand.....Lolx1Heavy, Shock Therapy, Broke Down 69 and 1 other person Thank this.

Kowloon was off limits when I was there; you know how that goes. Any place that's off limits is where the good times are.
"Hey, Chief, gimme an off limits list."Broke Down 69 Thanks this. -
I own a condo in Beijing and it's just as wild now as it was back then in Hong Kong and Kowloon. Nothings really changed as far as night life. Prices aren't much different either.
1 USD is worth about 7 RMB, so a dollar goes a long way still.Broke Down 69 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
@Jimmy Hoffa & @Broke Down 69 - In China just bought a can of Budweiser for .59 cents and a can of Tsingtao (Chinese beer) for .51 cents. See, cheap, good liberty. Betel nut is still cheap; package of 10 chews for about $2.00, nothing like a chew of betel nut and a cold beer and a hot.......while "Dancing With The Green Fairy." Bet that brings back the memories.Last edited: Apr 10, 2017
