The first time I forgot it I set it on the tractor frame with no catwalk. She rode there about 100 miles.
Normally I set it on my catwalk or on the trailer. The thing to remind me about it is I don't close my side box until I put it away. Then I have a light on my dash about my box being open. Sometimes you just fail though.

I've also left loose items on the deck. If I catch it in the mirror it's a sinking feeling.
Secure the #### out of it and drive as if you have no securement.
If you drive smoothly it's amazing what you find when you arrive. Many times I have failed to button up the cab and arrive to find an open water bottle still upright on a shelf, even after traveling dirt roads.Jagsfan, FerrissWheel, Crusader66 and 3 others Thank this. -
I had a small rock that rode the catwalk for a 1000 miles. Or the time I set my 2 rolls of laundry quarters on my passenger steps and drove bobtail about 10 miles from the walmart to the laundromat.

What is a hide load???
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
Rotting, stinking stacks of hides from the slaughterhouse to the tannery. Think nasty liquid dripping down your straps as you tighten them. I haven't hauled one. Never will.passingthru69, Orangees, Crusader66 and 4 others Thank this.

Hides.
Once, and only once and that was under great protest and with several guarantees of full washes, replacment equipment and some cash.
He smell and juice was nasty, but the flies, that was the absolute worst thing.
However I did get no one parking next to me.Jagsfan, Highway Sailor, snowman_w900 and 5 others Thank this. -
Used to do a lot of that back home. They paid 3 x as much. Had two specific sets of trailers for the job. Just left them there empty hooked up the loaded set and took off.
Lepton1 and Crusader66 Thank this. -
Oh wow.... thats disgusting. Why not ship that in a tub in a van? Thanks for the heads up on that one. Looking forward to making the jump to flats

I hauled a load of hides out of Idaho to Wisconsin. It's really not a big deal. They stink and the juice runs off your trailer. Get a wash and all is good. Right @bzinger ?Lepton1, Crusader66, 4mer trucker and 2 others Thank this.
