I really appreciate all of your input. I put together a bid package and all of your information was very helpful.

Just remember something, this isn't about YOU and that customer, it is about all of us.
Because you set some level of rate, a customer will expect all of us to abide by their idea of what's fair then if we refuse to take their freight at that rate, they will shop and find some clown marginal owner willing to take it for next to nothing and this hurts all of us on many levels.TripleSix, SL3406, sawmill and 1 other person Thank this. -
I shoot for 200. Do a lot at 150. Won't even think of less than 125. 7 axle lowboy. I don't think I would do less than a hundo even for a van.

Let's make a deal...I won't buy a truck...but PLEASE PLEASE next time before you "open your mouth" take the time to read at least a couple of times what I wrote down. I WAS NOT SAYING that this gentleman needs to charge 69 bucks for his service...IT WAS AN EXAMPLE... maybe next time I will try to explain with apple and oranges to you...or may be not.noluck Thanks this. -

Or perhaps you could use real numbers instead of something you pulled out of nowhere....Mattflat362 Thanks this. -
Most all our trucking is by the hr. $140 per hr for the Landoll sliding axle and $160 per hr for the 50 ton Talbert and 4 axle truck + permits.
Almost all our hauling is 100 miles or less. On these runs, you usually spend more time getting loaded/unloaded than you do actual driving. I'm going to get paid for sitting 1/2 a day waiting on them to decide where I need to unload. Plus, if they know they are paying you by the hr, they tend to not drag around as bad.
Most dump trucks around here get $75-$80 per hr. I couldn't imagine people running tractor/trailers for that or less.Mattflat362 and noluck Thank this. -
Out in the bay area we are charging $95 hr for a dump truck. All local work (50 mile radius). The heavy haul side can range from $115 hr up to $ 250 hr (80 ton trailer). I spend more time loading and sitting in traffic than actually driving at hwy speeds!!!
Mattflat362 Thanks this.
