Driving to pick up a priority load this morning, I run out of fuel on the interstate due to my fuel gauge suddenly deciding to stick at 1/4 full. Never had an issue with the gauge before, so no reason to suspect it was lying. Truck shuts off and I manage to get it into a wide spot on the side of the road.
First I send a message to my dispatcher telling him truck issues and won't make load spot.
Not being 100% on what was up with truck, I do some checking on the engine, stick the tanks etc. and contact the shop folks with what I know.

At this point, I've been down for 10-15 minutes. Another company driver drives past me, doesn't stop, roll down a window and ask if need a hand, yada yada...

After determining that Yup, I'm out of fuel, and going be sitting for a few, I'm opening the door to go put out the triangles when my phone rings, and it's safety telling me that the other driver called in and told them that I didn't have any triangles out. Safety didn't really care that I told him I was just doing that when he called, but proceeded to tell me that those should have been first, and how much a ticket would be if a trooper rolled up on me like I don't already know...

So here's the problem, this guy, not knowing squat about how long I'd been sitting there or what the issue is, not offering any assistance just drops a dime on me because the triangles weren't out. Keep in mind that because it was rush hour and traffic was doing about 20 stop and go, my priority put those third on the list to do.
I'm not a noob, I've had my CDL since 81 and I know the rules, but the fact that this clown rolled on me has me so pisst off that I'm about to tell this outfit adios.

Love to hear some opinions on this.

Calm down. You did nothing wrong.

My triangles go out when I am sure I won't be moving. Until then it is the flashers.
If it will be longer than 15 minutes or so I'll get them out.
And I've had cops roll up behind me as I am sitting there before I put them out. It has never been a problem.
I explain what is happening, and if it looks like I'll be there for an extended period the triangles are put out.

From my own experience it seems the cops are there to help us more than hurt us. Most are very helpful and not at all that eager to pop us for something.

And you have been doing this a lot longer than I have, so you already know.

I would have lied and said the snitch didn't move over and passed so close it shook the truck. In fact he passed so close to me I had to wait to open the drivers door. And also, Safety man, what are you going to do about the driver not moving over when he saw my truck disabled on the side of the road.

Apparently they also have rats out there if your trailer has tails and you don't have them deployed, they call it in.

That is not the kind of company I wish to continue to work for.
