RT cranes

I leave them up. That's alot of stress on the rams. Yes they are designed to handle wght, but is a bouncing jar on the outriggers. But that's just me

Some guys did it some didn't, I never did but then again 90% of the time I pulled a beam so it didn't matter. The problem is a lot of times your outrigger pads can be wider than the tires of the machine. I've loaded out of Grove, Terex, and Linkbelt none of them seemed to care. I does take a lot of the "bobble" out when setting on tires so what ever makes you comfortable.

 

We have two RT cranes (Grove 528 and old 14T Bucirus Erie). We always haul with the outriggers down. I've heard the argument about it blowing out the seals but I'm not buying it, we haven't replaced a outrigger seal, ever.

Outriggers don't take any abuse when hauling compared to what they see in actual service. We always haul them down because it makes the crane much more stable.

Edit to add- If I were hauling somebody else's machine, I'd probably leave them up. Lots of people buy into it blowing the seals. You could haul a old crane that the seals were about to blow anyway and get blamed for causing it.

 

I've always kept them up. But I can see the argument both ways.

 

Do they scale out that way?
