I'd of told him through the closed door that I am going back to bed. Enjoy your free food for the short time you have left.

If it was an interstate shipment, he can be charged with a federal felony.

Hope he was hauling some freezer-pops, because a side of beef at -10 is as rare as a steak can be cooked, and hell to chew... :p

-10 seems cold enough... do they go any lower than that? :p

OK....so I'm a bit off-topic here but this reminded me of an idea I had for a home protection device.....

You install a wall safe with a picture in front of it. The picture is on hinges so it can be swung open or hide the safe. When you go out, you leave the picture slightly open so that a burglar can see there's a wall safe behind it.

The thief breaks into your house, sees the wall safe, swings open the painting to have a look. Behind the painting is the vault that's been left slightly open. The thief can't resist and swings open the vault door.

Inside the vault is a metal box labeled "CASH", a bottle of warm coke, and some cookies. The thief reaches in to get the box and a device snaps a single handcuff on his wrist like a mousetrap!

You come home hours later and the thief is eating his cookies, drinking his warm coke, and tired of standing with one arm trapped inside the vault. You then call the cops, apply acid to his testicles, ....or whatever. ;-)

I wouldn't have called the cops
I would've just gone back to bed and continued with my run
When the receiver opened the doors, I'd say, "Huh, how bout that"
    Schit happens

Death does seem like an excessive penalty for theivery, and shutting the doors makes you culpable for the very predictable outcome of your actions. Evidence that you knew he was in there, would include the fact that you did close the doors, in response to his entry into the trailer, and any evidence after that, that the thief attempted to call for help. You could argue it, and fight it in court, but win or lose, the stink of it would stick to you, and you'd still have to bear the cost of defending yourself.

It's a satisfying thought, but probably not one that you should seriously follow through on... :-/
