Amazing how some don't READ before commenting. RECIPROCITY ACT OF 1993. WE ARE ALLOWED BY FEDERAL LAW TO CARRY IN EVERY STATE. When in performance of our duties. When on non secure loads we do not carry but the guns are always in the truck. Only state that's a little sticky is NJ. We are still permitted to carry but cannot posses HOLLOW POINT AMMO. Every round you are caught with is a $1000 fine. Our mags are 15 rounds each so we abide by their laws. DOT knows us and leaves us alone at scales. They rarely call us inside but if they do we do not disarm. So no we don't hide the fact that we are armed. Westerns other divisions are not permitted to be armed. Only the Armored secure division (that's us!).

I just read ACIRA. Are you always on duty and in uniform? If not, it doesn't apply. The gun is always on the truck? Then drive up to the US Capitol in your truck and tell the US Capitol Police to keep an eye on your truck because you have a firearm on board and you don't want a hoodlum to break in and steal it. I dare you.
-
Ok well I guess you must know my job much better than I do, no point in debating you any further. So do you think when we take our uniforms the guns teleport themselves to the companies gun safe then rematerialize when we put the uniform back on? No? Well until then the guns are secured in our safe on board. I've already stated that. Do we let law enforcement know there are weapons on the truck? YES we do. Have we ever been questioned? No we haven't. We are in and out of federal facilities all the time and have never been questioned, arrested, imprisoned or even had them confiscated. Maybe you just don't know my job and the details of it as well as you think.
LloydToo, Dharok and TequilaSunrise Thank this. -
Do we need to go to the US Capitol? No we don't so that's a moot point, same for the WH. We do however have to disarm when entering a courthouse, school or certain other government buildings. The only exceptions are for law enforcement which we are NOT. Even though we carry a badge it's not that kind..

Go read McGarvey vs. Biswell. Or better yet, ask your company about it, since the 2 men arrested were employees of Western Distributing/Armored Division (pulling a load of meat). There is no such thing as a sworn armored car guard, much less a sworn armored car. So I still say BS newbie.
-
Newbie? Really? Show your brain power again please. While being relatively new to Western (3 years) I'm far from a newbie let me assure you. The case you are referring to I am familiar with. They use it as a training tool for newer drivers. The drivers in question were still open carrying while picking up a NON SECURE load which yes is ILLEGAL. The shipper was being a total ####### and called police which resulted in arrest and impounding of truck. I ever said boo about open carry when on NON SECURE loads, you just read that into it. We are however allowed to have weapons on the truck at all times, they just have to be put up. Just In case it were any of your business which it is not my driving career started in 1986 AFTER 6 years in the Army as an 88Mike. Heavy wheeled vehicle operator. ETS as an E6 motorpool sergeant. So before you spout off that newbie ######## KNOW what and WHO you are talking about junior. That would be 37 years in case your not good at math. 31 as a civilian driver. If you got so.e smart ### remark about that save it.

The shipper thing was another case where there were arrests at Domino Sugar plant in Florida when drivers (who were fired shortly after) open carried into plant and after getting into an altercation were arrested. That's what I thought you were referring to. Yes it does happen IF you overstep your bounds.

You are not going to find the common mass of regular drivers in that kind of hauling. And probably will not find very many problems associated with that either.
Keep mind my own knowledge regarding weaponry and a little touch of training such as it is is strictly limited to my State and a handful of others. As a general rule I will not be unarmed in any kind of work regardless of any employer policy. But you will not catch me in Jersey or NYC etc as such as Im here at home.
With that said, I open carried a holstered blade for over a decade. most of the time it will come out against bale wire, pallet shrink wrap and things of that nature. Maybe trim a busted or torn airline to splice. In places like NYC proper. No one cared. After 9-11 though. Things have changed. But a good part of who I am has not. So there is that.Chinatown Thanks this. -
We are part of that division.

The implied values of loads do not intimidate me, Im accustomed to running million plus dollar value Narcotics out of McKesson in Memphis and we did well. Actually the best of our lives in terms of on time, no loss or damage and reliability when dispatched from Memphis. In spite of the extremely high threat offered by the predators living in that area.
I hope that it's happy trails and wonderful fun times without the troubles with you and yours in that Division down the road. Good luck!LloydToo and StrappedToRide Thank this.
